About our benefactor

  • The Max Rady College of Medicine is one of five colleges within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. Both the college and the faculty are named in honour of Winnipeg physician Max Rady [MD/21] and his wife, Rose (Bronfman) Rady.

Max, a Russian Jewish immigrant, put himself through medical school at UM, graduating in 1921. He was known for his compassion, regardless of patients’ ability to pay for care. Rose was an educator and community activist who worked tirelessly for charitable causes.

  • In 2016, their son, business leader Ernest Rady [BComm/58, LLB/62, LLD/15], and his wife Evelyn Rady [BA/60, BSW/61, MSW/67] made a landmark donation of $30 million to the faculty. This philanthropic gift, the couple said, honours Dr. Max and Rose Rady for making a difference in people’s lives and setting an example of community service.
