    Manitoba still faces challenge in curbing measles a year into outbreak: community health prof

    It's been one year since the first measles cases in the latest outbreak were reported in Manitoba — and there's no sign the spread of the highly contagious disease is slowing. "It's obviously signalling that there's still a challenge in Manitoba in addressing those growing number of cases," said Michelle Driedger, Professor at the College of Community and Global Health .

    CTV Winnipeg: University of Manitoba looks to boost vaccine development, research facilities

    UM is expanding its research capabilities with two new facilities at its Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses to boost vaccine development and the study of viruses. These projects, funded by $57 million from Ottawa and $16.7 million from the province, aim to attract researchers and students while fostering collaboration with other universities. The new facilities will focus on vaccine preparation models and studying the effects of viruses, with the Bannatyne campus expected to be operational within a year and the Fort Garry campus within two years.

    CBC News Network: UM expert weighs in on comments by U.S. ambassador on NORAD, F-35 order

    U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra warned that NORAD would need to be altered if Canada doesn't purchase F-35 fighter jets, potentially leading the U.S. to increase its air force presence in Canadian airspace. Andrea Charron, Professor and Director, Centre for Defence and Security Studies at UM, cautioned against public disputes that could undermine shared deterrence. The ambassador's remarks have been interpreted as political pressure amid ongoing debate over Canada's fighter jet options.
