The Rady Faculty of Health Sciences Core Facilities is excited to announce the first Annual Image of the Year Competition.
All users of RFHS Core Facilities are invited to submit images that showcase research conducted using one or more of the RFHS Core Facilities.
Competition rules
Submission deadline: February 28, 2026
Eligible images: Must be acquired using equipment from one or more of the following RFHS Core Facilities:
- Flow Cytometry
- Genetically Engineered Model Services (GEMS)
- Histology Services, Imaging Facility, Electron Microscopy
- Live-Cell Imaging Facility
- Manitoba Centre for Proteomics and Systems Biology (MCPSB)
- Small Animal and Material Imaging Core Facility
- Statistical Genomics and Bioinformatics
Image timeframe: For this inaugural competition, images must come from studies active between January 1, 2024, and February 28, 2026.
Submission limit: Up to three (3) images per participant.
Post-processing: Limited image editing is permitted. Submissions should remain as close as possible to the original data.
File format: Submit images in a standard format (JPEG, TIFF, or PNG). Proprietary formats (vendor/equipment-specific) may not be accepted.
Judging: A subcommittee of the RFHS Core Facilities Steering Committee will evaluate submissions based on novelty, technical skill, and visual/scientific impact.
Prizes
1st prize: $500 University of Manitoba Bookstore gift certificate
2nd prize: $250 University of Manitoba Bookstore gift certificate
3rd prize: $125 University of Manitoba Bookstore gift certificate
