Taché Arts Complex – Music, Fine Arts, Theatre
Bringing together the Desautels Faculty of Music, the School of Art, and the Faculty of Arts’ theatre program in one historic complex, this former student residence building now features state-of-the-art facilities for music creativity, performance and research.
Eckhardt Gramatté Music Library
Offering six dedicated listening stations, one private viewing station, a printing station and workstations equipped with cutting edge software, this library supports study, research and performance in addition to housing the largest collection of music materials in Manitoba.
Large ensemble room/recording studio
The large ensemble room provides a rehearsal space suitable for a full orchestra, wind ensemble or concert band. Frequently used for workshops and group classes, the room is directly connected to the Desautels Recording Studio, with built-in recording capabilities.
Vocal arts room
Frequently used for workshops, masterclasses, small jazz ensemble performances, Desautels Chamber Opera performances and faculty performances, this room features built-in risers for either choral rehearsals or audience seating.
Gail Asper Performing Arts Hall
Encompassing all spaces used by the Faculty of Arts’ theatre program, this state-of-the-art performing arts hall includes the John J. Conklin Theatre as well as set, prop and costume shops. Located on the third floor, public audiences enter the performance venue through the lobby.
John J. Conklin Theatre
With seating for up to 150 audience members, the Conklin Theatre is the primary performance space for students in the Faculty of Arts’ theatre program. The Conklin Theatre can also be booked for other events and groups.
Theatre workshop
Located directly behind the stage, the carpentry and paint workshop gives students the chance to create sets for productions. Students work primarily with wood construction methods.
Theatre wardrobe
In the wardrobe, students learn and practice basic costume construction, alteration and maintenance.
