Science Complex
Offering the largest variety of science programs in Manitoba, as well as co-op and mentoring opportunities, the Faculty of Science is dedicated to teaching excellence and world-changing research. Located on the north side of campus, the Science complex includes buildings and facilities for biological sciences, chemistry, microbiology and physics.
Innovation Plaza
Innovation Plaza, located on the south lawn of the Buller Building at Auld Place, features a series of commemorative busts honouring the UM’s most distinguished researchers, scholars and creators. The nearby Avenue of Elms provides a living memorial for UM students who served during World War I.
Machray Hall
Currently undergoing renovation, Machray Hall houses the Faculty of Science Dean’s Office, the Departments of Statistics and Mathematics, and the Jim Peebles Science and Technology Library. Students can visit the Faculty of Science Advising Centre to speak with academic advisors about course selection and degree planning.
Jim Peebles Science and Technology Library
Located in Machray Hall and currently undergoing renovation, this library serves the research, study and teaching requirements of students in Science, Engineering, Agricultural and Food Sciences, and Environment, Earth and Resources. Amenities include study space, group study rooms, public computers, printers and scanners.
Armes Lecture Building
Named in honor of Henry P. Armes, former Dean of Arts and Science, the Armes Lecture Building contains several of the university’s large lecture auditoriums, ranging in size from 150-300 students. Many introductory level courses are taught in the Armes lecture theatres.
Science Students Association Lounge
Located inside the Armes Lecture Building, the Science Students Association (SSA) Lounge is a large, open-concept space for students to relax, study, eat and even have a game of pool or foosball.
Anatomy and Physiology lab
Several state-of-the-art teaching labs can be found throughout the Science complex, such as this anatomy and physiology lab in the Biological Sciences Building. Labs provide an opportunity for students to engage in hands-on research and experiments using specialized equipment.
Chemistry lab
Several state-of-the-art teaching labs can be found throughout the Science complex, such as this chemistry lab in the Parker Chemistry Building. Labs provide an opportunity for students to engage in hands-on research and experiments using specialized equipment
Microbiology lab
