Named for Dr. Helen Glass, a UM professor and founder of the Manitoba Nursing Research Institute, Helen Glass Centre features numerous skills and simulation labs where nursing and midwifery students can practice caring for patients in hospital-like settings.
Helen Glass Centre Atrium
Inside the Helen Glass Centre atrium, you’ll find the main reception desk as well as offices for student advisors and the Nursing Students’ Association. The Dr. Margaret Elder Hart Heritage Room displays items from nursing history.
Helen Glass Centre Lecture theatre
This lecture theatre is among the largest classroom spaces in Helen Glass Centre, with capacity for over 100 students.
Helen Glass Centre Skills lab
The skills lab gives nursing students the chance to understand the patient experience, practice skills such as drawing blood and inserting IVs, and gain the experience required to work in a hospital setting. Students practice on simulated patients, known as “Jakes”.
Helen Glass Centre Simulation lab (Adult)
Simulation labs allow students to develop their critical thinking and skills in a risk-free environment designed to reflect real-life settings and situations. Students work with high-fidelity manikins and engage in role playing and evaluation with instructors.
