FAUM Writing Tutor

The Faculty of Architecture is pleased to announce that it will again provide its students with the opportunity to work with an in-house academic writing tutor to receive specialized writing support for work in FAUM courses.  The writing tutor for the fall term will be John Harper, a current sessional instructor who has a Master of Landscape Architecture.
 
Students are welcome to consult with John at any stage in the writing process. They can make appointments by checking the booking schedule here.

Available time slots are shown in yellow, and then students should request a time slot by contacting  John directly  at john.harper@umanitoba.ca to book. Note that students will need to have a University of Manitoba email account to view the booking link.

Welcome Environmental Design year 2 students

Urban Media Lab EVDS 2100 & digital basics

In the 2024-2025 academic year, the pre-term Environmental Design Orientation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 and Urban Media Lab will be held from Monday, August 26 to Friday, September 6, 2024, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm; more details on the course structure will be distributed closer to the start date. BOTH THE ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN ORIENTATION and UML ATTENDANCE ARE MANDATORY.

There is an expectation that you will have completed the following tutorials prior to the Urban Media Lab (UML) as there will be assignments issued in UML during the first week of classes that require a basic understanding of these programs. The following courses are available on LinkedIn Learning. There is a free 30-day trial period during which you can sign up for to access the programs.

There is also an expectation that students will their printing account with CADLab by or before Orientation Day to ensure it is ready for use during EVDS 2100: Urban Media Lab.

Camera Requirements

 Students enrolled in EVDS 2100 must have a DSLR camera ready for use by the course's start date (August 26, 2024). The camera can be new or used, and it may be purchased or borrowed.

Specifications for purchasing a new camera can be found by downloading the 2024-2025 camera requirements document.

Students may sign out one of the 20 Canon EOS RP full-frame mirrorless cameras from CADLab on a first-come, first-served basis. Please check CADLab's operating hours when planning to sign out equipment. The sign-out process begins on August 15th, 2024, and arrangements for pick-up must be made by or before the orientation day.

  • The 2024 - 2025 Faculty of Architecture Graduate Student Orientation will be held on September 3, 2024 from 8:30 am - 11:00 am in Centre Space of the John A. Russell Building. Event agenda will be available August 2024.

    The Faculty of Graduate Studies, in collaboration with the University of Manitoba Graduate Students’ Association, will be hosting the Fall 2024 Graduate Student Orientation workshops  on August 29 at the Fort Garry Campus. A schedule of available workshops will be posted on the Graduate Studies website in July.
