The Faculty of Law offers a three-year Juris Doctor (JD) program, which provides students with a strong foundation of doctrinal and perspective courses, and experiential learning to help prepare them for the legal profession. Students will develop writing and critical analysis skills under faculty guidance, expanding their perspective and ethical understanding of the role of legal professionals.

The Master of Laws degree has two programs: an advanced, thesis-based, research-intensive degree, allowing students the flexibility to choose the area of research they want to focus on. The course-based degree provides students with the opportunity to enhance the training received in their undergraduate studies. Throughout the program, students will work closely with dedicated professors with legal expertise and a diverse range of research interests. The course-based LLM will appeal to lawyers and other professionals seeking further academic qualifications.

Master of Human Rights - MHR

The University of Manitoba launched its Master of Human Rights (MHR) program in September 2019. The program is the first of its kind in Canada and prepares students for careers in human rights advocacy. The program is a collaboration of the faculties of Arts, Law, Education, and Social Work. It also cooperates with the Centre for Human Rights Research, the Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace and Justice in St. Paul’s College, and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.

Internationally Trained Lawyer Program - ITLP

Starting in the fall of 2025, the Faculty of Law will offer two micro-diplomas to allow internationally trained lawyers (ITLs) to become licensed to practice law in Manitoba. In the Internationally Trained Lawyer Program (ITLP) students may take the Canadian Public Law micro-diploma, the Canadian Private Law diploma, or both.
