Terry Bunio was appointed Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the University of Manitoba effective February 9, 2025.
He is an accomplished IT executive with more than 30 years of experience in strategic planning, enterprise systems modernization, data governance, and organizational change management.
Terry joined the University of Manitoba in 2016 as Manager, Project Management Office, and in 2020 became Director, IST Planning and Governance. In this role, he has led budget planning and forecasting for the Information Technology unit and has overseen the University Information Technology Advisory Committee (UITAC), supporting oversight of IT governance, solution architecture, vendor management, and project management practices. In January 2025, Terry served as Acting Chief Information Officer.
Prior to joining the university, Terry held leadership roles with Investors Group and Protegra Technology Group, gaining extensive experience as a Data Architect, Project Manager, Delivery Manager, and Principal Consultant. He holds a Bachelor of Mathematics in Business Computing from the University of Winnipeg.
Terry is known for his strategic vision, people centered leadership, and commitment to innovation, emerging technologies, process improvements, and institutional priorities such as reconciliation, equity, and inclusion. He consistently builds high-performing teams and strong partnerships and fosters a culture of accountability, care, and operational excellence.
As Chief Information Officer, Terry leads the Information Services and Technology (IST) unit in support of the University’s strategic priorities. This includes implementation of IST’s strategic plan; institutional cyber security leadership; creation and evolution of the University’s artificial intelligence strategy; advancement of the University of Manitoba’s data analytics capabilities; and the reliable operation and continuous improvement of shared software solutions, networks, and core infrastructure.
