Executive Director of Student Support

  • Leah Deane (she/her/hers), MSW RSW

    Leah Deane is a registered social worker. In her current position, Leah oversees the activities of seven busy Student Support units offering services in the areas of advocacy, accessibility, sexual violence prevention and support, and mental, physical, and spiritual health and wellbeing. Leah has worked in Student Support at the University of Manitoba for the past eight years. In her previous role, she was the Director of Student Services Bannatyne Campus. In that capacity she led an interdisciplinary clinical team that provided holistic, confidential, and private support to all Rady Faculty of Health Sciences learners. Leah has a strong commitment to Reconciliation and to creating a more inclusive, fair, and welcoming environment for all students at the University of Manitoba.

Strategic Priorities

Support enhanced services for students

Support sexual violence prevention, education and response initiatives

  • Continue participation on Sexual Violence Steering Committee and subcommittees/working groups related to implementation of recommendations from A Path Forward report
  • Continue implementing priority recommendations from SVRC Pilot Project Final Report 

Support equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives across campus

  • Ensure Student Support units participate in various initiatives arising from President’s Task Force on EDI 
  • Continue programming and support of allies in addressing issues of racism and discrimination 
  • Explore options for securing dedicated and consolidated test and exam space for students with disabilities
