Group fitness classes

Excellent classes. Great instructors. No additional cost!

We offer varied content and intensity, low to high, muscle to cardio, interval to continuous, flexibility to strength and combinations of each.

All instructors are accredited through the Manitoba Fitness Council and other national organizations, ensuring you are getting safe, high-quality instruction.

We offer plenty of classes to ensure members will always have an option available during a time that fits their schedule.

Casual rec use

Play your favourite sports and activities!

Members have access to 1500 plus hours of casual rec use time. From swimming to ice skating, there's an activity available for you to enjoy at no additional cost.

Partner Rates

Partners of UM Staff, alumni and on-campus staff qualify for the same rate as the primary membership holder. Partners must provide proof that they live in the same residence as the primary membership holder.



UM Students

  • The Active Living Centre and Joe Doupe Recreation Centre are open.

    By way of the Sport and Rec Fee, UM students have access to available facilities in the Active Living Centre and Frank Kennedy Centre at the Fort Garry campus and the Joe Doupe Recreation Centre at the Bannatyne campus.

    Waiver/agreement - To book a workout, you must first complete a gym waiver that outlines the assumption of risk (including risk due to COVID-19), the release of liability, waiver of claims and indemnity agreement. If you are 18 years of age or older, you will do this by logging in to your Aurora account and following the pathway outlined below: 

    • Enrollment & Academic Records > Declarations > Gym waiver/agreement 
  • Student lifting dumbbells while seated in Active Living Centre

If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign your Gym Waiver/Agreement. Please visit our website to download and print the form.

The fully completed form must be emailed to to be processed. Once your completed Gym Waiver/Agreement has been received, either online (if over 18) or by email (if under 18), please allow at least two business days for customer service to activate your account.

Once your account has been activated, you will be able to start booking your workouts online.

ICM students: To access the gym, ICM students must first complete the Gym waiver/agreement by logging in to their student portal account at the following pathway: Student Resources, select “Forms” in the dropdown and click Active Living Center Waiver. Once gym access has been activated, you will receive a welcome email with further information and instructions on how to book a workout

Booking your workout:

Step 1: Complete your waiver through your Aurora account.

  • Please allow at least two business days for your account to be activated before you start booking your workouts online.
  • If you completed a waiver in the Fall Term, move on to step 2.

Step 2: Log in to our online registration site to start booking your workouts or group fitness class

  • Please do not create a new account. If you create a new account, you will not be able to book workouts.

Please note:

- Workouts are offered in 2-hour workout blocks on a first-come, first-served basis.

- Time slots can be booked no more than two days in advance and open at 7 a.m.
