Memberships

  • Members have access to a wide variety of fitness programs, recreation facilities, and certified staff across two campuses, giving participants of all ages the ability to control their health and wellness journey.
     

    We promote safe and inclusive workout spaces with special times for women, trans and non-binary people.


    With no enrollment fees, you can become a member and join our welcoming community.

    To become a member, please visit the customer service desk in either the Active Living Centre on the Fort Garry campus or the Joe Doupe Recreation Centre on the Bannatyne campus.

  • Access

    Members can access all six of our recreation facilities, including the Active Living Centre, Frank Kennedy Centre, James Daly Fieldhouse, Joe Doupe Recreation Centre, Joyce Fromson Pool and the Wayne Fleming Arena.

  • Amenities

    Member amenities include accessible locker rooms and showers, community change rooms, day-use lockers, locker and equipment rentals, and a sauna and towel service.

  • Perks

    Members gain access to a variety of benefits to help you on your fitness journey including certified fitness staff, 20 percent off adult programs and membership freezes.

Membership rates

New memberships or renewals can be purchased in person at either the Active Living Centre or Joe Doupe Recreation Centre customer service desks.

  • The new pricing will take effect on January 1, 2025.
  • All prices are subject to GST. 
  • On campus groups include the Canadian Sport Centre, UMSU, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Freshwater Institute, SmartPark etc. On campus groups for the Bannatyne campus include Health Sciences Centre, Diagnostics Services, CancerCare, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority etc.
  • Photo ID is required for youths aged 6-14 and they must be accompanied by an adult.

Partner Rates

Partners of UM Staff, alumni and on-campus staff qualify for the same rate as the primary membership holder. Partners must provide proof that they live in the same residence as the primary membership holder. 

Membership freeze

Non-student members can freeze their membership for one-month increments without advance notice for $10/month + GST, paid upfront (i.e. a three-month freeze would cost $30 + GST). Membership freezing is exclusive to individuals with a 12-month membership only. 

All medical freeze requests will be reviewed/approved by the Director of Recreation Services.

Payment Options

Payment plan

Pay your membership monthly with a Visa or Mastercard. This option requires a $25 administration fee.

Payroll deduction

Full-time UM Staff can have their membership fees deducted from their payroll. Please contact the customer service desk at 204-474-6100 for more information. 

UM Students

  • Eligible students have access to all available membership facilities and benefits through their Sport and Rec Fee. 

    To claim their access students must:

    • Be registered for classes in the current term
    • Complete the gym waiver within the academic year

    UM students aged 18 or above must complete their waivers online. Please see the steps below. 

    1. Log in to New Aurora
    2. Scroll down and click Aurora Classic
    3. Go to Enrollment & Academic Records > Declarations > Student Gym Waiver/agreement. 

    Students will receive an email confirming access within five business days.

    UM Students under 18 years old must have their parent or legal guardian sign the gym waiver. Please download, print and send the fully completed waiver to rec_services@umanitoba.ca.

    English Language Centre Students (ELC)

    ELC students are able to purchase a student term rate at the customer service desk. This allows them to have access to all available membership facilities and benefits.

  • ICM Students

    To access the gym, ICM students must first complete the Gym waiver/ agreement by logging in to their student portal account at the following pathway:

    • Student Resources > select "Forms" in the dropdown > click Active Living Center waiver.
  • Spring/Summer term access

    Student access is only available during terms when your are registered for classes and were registered in classes in the term prior. If you would like to continue to access facilities during spring or summer terms when you are not registered for classes, please visit the customer service desk and purchase a non-student access membership at a discounted rate.
