Membership Freeze Policy (Effective as of Dec. 1, 2024)

  • Non-student members can freeze their membership for one-month increments for $10/month + GST, paid upfront (i.e. a three-month freeze would cost $30 + GST). Anytime exceeding one month will incur a charge for the next full month (e.g., a freeze of one month and one day will be charged as two months).
  • Membership freeze start dates cannot be set earlier than the date the freeze request is submitted.
  • All medical freeze requests will be reviewed and approved by the Director of Recreation Services. A medical note must accompany the request and be submitted by email to rec_services@umanitoba.ca with the subject line: Membership Freeze Request – Medical Note. Please note that medical freezes will not be processed without proper documentation.
  • Membership freezing is exclusive to individuals with a 12-month membership only.
  • Memberships approved for a freeze will be extended by the same duration as the approved freeze period.
  • Please note that membership freezes are limited to a maximum duration of 4 months.
  • Freeze fees must be paid within two business days of receiving the email confirming that the freeze request has been processed.
  • Unpaid freeze fees after two business days will result in cancellation of the freeze. Please note that once a freeze is cancelled, the original freeze start date cannot be honoured, as retroactive freezes are not allowed.

Payroll Deduction

  • For members on payroll deduction, gym fees will continue to be deducted, and their membership will be extended by the duration of the freeze.

Payment Plan

  • For members on a payment plan, monthly payments will continue, and their membership will be extended by the duration of the freeze.
  • Please note that unsuccessful or declined payments may incur additional fees. Repeated declined payments may result in immediate membership cancellation and the revocation of payment plan privileges.
