Application required Allan Waisman Indigenous Architecture Scholarship

Each year, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one or more scholarships to Canadian Indigenous graduate students who:

  • are Canadian Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit)
  • are enrolled full-time in any graduate program offered by the Faculty of Architecture
  • have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 based on the previous 60 credit hours
  • have a strong record of community work, volunteerism or other related activity in an Indigenous organization or community;

In order to demonstrate how they meet criterion, candidates must submit a written statement (maximum 250 words) outlining their relevant experiences.

Applicants must also include with their application a letter addressing the following questions:

  • What Indigenous community are you connected with?
  • How do you identify with that community?
  • How does that identity carry through in your design work?
  • What ways do you plan to work with your community?

Application required Barbara Humphreys Memorial Graduate Scholarship in Architecture

Value: $11, 775

The available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one scholarship to a graduate student who:

  • are enrolled full-time in any graduate program offered by the Faculty of Architecture
  • has graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba;
  • has achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours
  • submits a concise statement (maximum 250 words) describing their research area of interest.

Preference will be given to students with an interest in Canada's architectural heritage and the impact architecture has on the built and natural environments.

Application required Canadian Masonry Research Institute Scholarship

Value: $3,000
Deadline: January 9, 2026

The scholarship, valued at the available annual interest, shall be offered to a student who:

  • are enrolled full-time in any graduate program offered by the Faculty of Architecture
  • has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.0 based on the last 60 credit hours
  • is conducting research specifically related to unit or stone masonry studies

Submissions must state the theme and scope of the proposed research, how funds will be used to further studies (i.e., material, travel)

The recipient will be required to make a formal presentation to the Faculty of Architecture student body and submit a written report to the Chair of Masonry Studies and the Canadian Masonry Research Institute.

Application required Claude de Forest Scholarship for a Sustainable Future

Value: $10,000
Deadline: January 9, 2026

One or more scholarships with a total value of $10,000 will be offered to graduate students who:

  • are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in their first year of study in any graduate program offered through any department in the Faculty of Architecture;
  • have graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba;
  • have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on the last 60 credit hours
  • have demonstrated a commitment to helping create a sustainable future through the professional field of Architecture by involvement in sustainable organizations, climate change initiatives and/or programs.

Application required Fridrik Kristjansson Scholarship in Architecture

Value: $5,000

Each year, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one or more scholarships to graduate students who: 

  • are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the second year or higher of study in any graduate program offered by the Faculty of Architecture; and
  • have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours  

Preference will be given to students whose programs of study focus on universal design and special needs in planning and design of housing.

Application required Maxwell Starkman Scholarship in Architecture

Value: $16, 400
Deadline: January 9, 2026

The available annual income from the fund will support an annual scholarship which will be offered to a graduate student who:

  • is enrolled full-time in any program offered through the Faculty of Architecture
  • as achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on the previous 60 credit hours
  • has demonstrated a high level of writing skills and an ability to show the importance of the proposed research topic, as presented in the scholarship application

This scholarship will provide support for, among other things, the travel and accommodation expenses involved in the research which the recipient proposes to undertake. Travel must commence within 10 months of receipt of the award. Travel and publication must be completed prior to graduation.

The available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one or more scholarships to graduate students who: 

  • are enrolled full-time in any graduate program offered through the Faculty of Architecture
  • have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours
  • have demonstrated excellence and significant growth in completing research or design work with an emphasis on universal access

Bursary

Application required Faculty of Architecture Emergency Bursary

One or two annual bursaries will be offered to students who:

  • have completed at least one year of study in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a department in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba
  • are enrolled as full-time students in a Masters degree program in Architecture, City Planning, Interior Design or Landscape Architecture
  • have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on all courses completed in the Faculty of Architecture

Applications for funding will consist of a letter of interest from the candidate that outlines their need for funding and how it will assist them in their program of study. Note, tuition is not an eligible financial need for this bursary.
