Poetry Workshop on Work, Vocation, and Climate
Date: Thursday, September 25th
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: St Matthew's Anglican Church
Join Melanie Dennis Unrau, co-editor of the poetry anthology I’ll Get Right On It: Poems on Working Life in the Climate Crisis and Writer in Residence at the Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture at the University of Manitoba, for a poetry workshop that explores the theme of labour and vocation in the time of climate emergency. Melanie will bring examples of work-and-climate poems to share, along with prompts and support to help you write your own poem on the theme. This workshop is open to everyone—no poetry experience necessary.
Young Adults Retreat - Pioneer Camp

Join us at Manitoba Pioneer Camp for our Fall Lecture Sereis Retreat: "The Way of Wisdom". Dr. Matthew Vanderkwaak will lead us in an analysis of the 6th Century Philosopher Boethius' The Consolation of Philosophy.
Alongside Hope Mapping Exercise

Hosted by Donna Joy, Elizabeth Bonnett, and Vince Solomon, the "Mapping the Ground We Stand On" workshop explores Indigenous presence and Settler arrival on the map of Turtle Island/Canada.
Poetry Slam Workshops
Date: Monday, October 6th and Thursday, October 9th
Time: 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Location: Quiet Room (111 St John's College)
In this pair of workshops, Steve Locke will draw from his experience as an award-winning spoken word poet to nurture skills that can be applied to both page and stage. Each session will explore exercises to build self-awareness and capacity for public speaking, as well as generative writing prompts that will ground each participant in the presence and power of their own voice. Participants are encouraged to attend both sessions, and then to share their poems at the open mic! Light refreshments provided.
Poetry Open Mic
Date: Thursday, October 9th
Location: Daily Bread Café
Hosted by Steve Locke of Winnipeg Poetry Slam, this event is open to poets of all talents and styles. Featuring a special guest appearance by local Winnipeg poet Sally Ito, we invite both new and experienced poets to this special opportunity get up on stage and perform some poetry live! Light refreshments provided.
Wilmot Lecture and Faith Horizons
Date: Friday, October 17th - Saturday, October 18th
Location: Robert Schultz Theatre
Join us for a two-day event exploring how God’s presence draws near in our lives and communities. This year’s Wilmot Lecture and Faith Horizons conference welcomes Dr. Collin Cornell, acclaimed theologian and author, as our keynote speaker.
The event begins on Friday, October 17 with an Opening Eucharist in the St John’s College Chapel, followed by the Wilmot Lecture in the Schultz Lecture Theatre. A reception in the Galleria will follow, offering an opportunity for conversation and connection.
On Saturday, October 18, we continue with Faith Horizons, a day of workshops, keynote addresses, and worship, diving deeper into the theme of “God Draws Near.” This is a rich opportunity to reflect, engage, and grow alongside fellow students, clergy, and community members.
Anglican Poetics Project Lecture Series
Date: Thursday, October 23rd - Thursday, December 4th
A scholarly lecture series exploring key figures and themes in the Anglican poetic tradition, featuring local poets and scholars, including St John’s College Fellows Dr. David Watt and Dr. Ryan Turnbull. Hosted at various churches throughout Winnipeg. Full schedule to be announced.
The Bell and the Bard: A Poetry Conference
Date: Saturday, November 1st
Time: 9:00AM - 4:00 PM
Location: St George's Anglican Church
The capstone event of the Anglican Poetics Project, this full-day conference features workshops led by poet Malcolm Guite and musician Steve Bell. The day includes lunch and concludes with an optional All Saints Mass in the evening, with Malcolm Guite preaching.
