Angels, Demons, and Cosmic Government in Early Christianity

Course Title: Angels, Demons, and Cosmic Government in Early Christianity
Instructor: Rev'd Dr. Greg Wiebe
Time: Tuesdays, 6-9 PM
Location: Hybrid, St John's College and Online.

This class can be taken for SJC audit or credit.

Description:

Angels and demons are often assumed to be esoteric, far-fetched, or even just sentimental or cartoonish. For early Christians, however, they were essential to fundamental questions of the faith, including the identity of Christ, the proper ritual and moral constitution of the people of God, their politico-religious relation to the surrounding nations, and the very destiny of humankind. These were the beings--both good and evil--that formed God's cosmic government. Students in this course will read a selection of ancient canonical and "apocryphal" literature, writings of early Christians, and some contemporary scholarship to discover the important roles of all things invisible for Christian theology.
