Office of Risk and Compliance

The six departments of the Office of Risk and Compliance (ORC) provide leadership and university-wide services that strengthen accountability, ensure a safe work and learning environment, identify and mitigate risks, investigate and resolve allegations of statutory and policy non-compliance, and reduce the consequences of non-compliance with applicable oversight bodies.

The ORC reports through the Vice-President (Administration).

Access and Privacy Office

The Access and Privacy Office is responsible for the implementation of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) at the University of Manitoba. The office responds to information requests, investigates breaches of personal information and provides privacy training.

Copyright Office

The Copyright Office supports faculty, staff and students in the use and creation of copyright-protected materials in their teaching, research and studies. The office also monitors the university’s compliance with copyright rules.

Environmental Health and Safety

The Environmental Health and Safety Office provides programming and services to ensure the health and safety of the university community. The office is responsible for the university safety policies and procedures for research, occupational health and animal care.

Office of Human Rights and Conflict Management

The Office of Human Rights and Conflict Management (OHRCM) promotes a respectful working and learning environment in which individuals are treated equitably and diversity is valued. The office works with all UM campuses to help with concerns regarding discrimination, sexual violence or conflict.

Security Services

Security Services ensures a safe environment for the university community. In addition to full-time licensed security guards, the department provides transportation safety programs and campus safety training and oversees the university’s emergency response plan.

Risk Management Office

The Risk Management Office is responsible for enterprise risk management across the university community, the Emergency Management Program, business continuity, insurance, and the development of university policies and procedures related to risk management and emergency preparedness.
