How waitlist positions work

Waitlist positions will display your order in the waitlist. However, it is important to keep in mind that these positions are offset.

Students being offered a spot in the waitlist will be in "Position 0" on the waitlist. A student on "Position 1" would be next in line for the waitlisted position.

Registering for a Waitlist is NOT:

  • The same as registering for the course.
  • A guarantee of a space in a course.
  • A guarantee that you are eligible to register for the course*

*Even if you receive a Waitlist Notification that a space is available, you will be prevented from registering for the course if you are not eligible.

Note that prerequisites and co-requisites are checked when waitlisting, except when waitlisting for labs. You are responsible for ensuring you have the prerequisite or co-requisite for the course when you waitlist for a lab. Without the prerequisite or co-requisite you will be prevented from registering in the course if space is offered to you.

Removing courses from the Waitlist

During the registration revision period, if you no longer require your waitlisted seat, please remove yourself from the waitlist to open space for other students.

Waitlist functionality is inactivated at the end of the registration revision period (after the last day to ADD a course), and waitlisted courses are no longer displayed on your Aurora account.

Do not remove yourself from a Waitlist after the DROP deadline. Students will be automatically removed from Waitlists.

Waitlist details, notifications, and errors

How do I know if a course has a Waitlist?

Waitlist information can be viewed by selecting the course title.

Each course section includes the following details:

  • Waitlist Capacity: The maximum number of designated Waitlist spaces
  • Waitlist Actual: The number of Waitlist spaces that have been taken
  • Waitlist Remaining: The number of Waitlist spaces remaining

Waitlists may be added to courses after they become full. You are encouraged to check back regularly to see if a Waitlist has been added to any course that you wish to take.

What happens if I received a Waitlist Notification, but missed the 24-hour period to register?

You will be removed from the Waitlist; you may re-add yourself but will be placed at the end of the list.

Will registering for a Waitlist count toward the maximum credit hours I can take?

Waitlist registration will not count toward the maximum credit hours you can take. However, if you reach the maximum course load prior to receiving a Waitlist Notification, you will need to drop a course before being permitted to register for the waitlisted section.

Can I put myself on the Waitlist for multiple sections of the same course?

You are not permitted to register/waitlist in multiple sections of the same course.

Can I waitlist a course section that has a "time conflict" with another course I am already registered for?

No, you cannot add yourself on a waitlist for a course that has a time conflict with a course you are already registered in.

Will I ever be removed from the Waitlist?

If you receive a Waitlist Notification and do not register within the period given, you will be removed from the Waitlist.

Waitlist functionality is inactivated at the end of the registration revision period, and waitlisted courses are no longer displayed on your Aurora account.

Do not remove yourself from a Waitlist after the last day to add a course. Students will be automatically removed from Waitlists.
