Role

As an Educational Developer, Sharmila leads the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) program, provides consultation support to faculty and collaborates on a variety of projects at The Center.

Biography

Sharmila brings over 20 years of corporate experience, including 12 years leading learning and development initiatives for large-scale digital transformation projects. Their work across five countries and teaching in rural South India have deepened their commitment to equitable, inclusive, and accessible education.

Passionate about integrating methodologies and concepts of continuous improvement and organizational learning with sound pedagogical practices, Sharmila strives to deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences that benefit all learners. They are deeply influenced by the adage "Learning for All and All for Learning," and believes that every student, not just the most privileged, must have access to the knowledge and skills needed for a fulfilling life.

In their current role, Sharmila adopts a values-based ecosystem approach to experiential learning.  Guided by the values of the Center and the University, and a profound appreciation of the interconnectedness in the system; they seek to foster collaboration among educators, students, communities, and other resources to help prepare students for today's dynamic socio-economic environment and to achieve shared growth.

With a keen interest in advancements in artificial intelligence, Sharmila is dedicated to staying at the forefront of the field and exploring the ethical, inclusive, and pedagogically sound integration of Generative AI in education. Outside of their professional endeavors, they are an animal lover who enjoys spending time with their pets, quiet reflective time in nature, journalling, and pursuing methodical exploration and self-directed learning on topics of interest.
