Role

Meaghan creates learning opportunities for experiential learning through workshops, events, consultations and resources for faculty, staff, and instructors.

Biography

Meaghan has been a long-time member of the U of M community. While completing her undergrad in Kinesiology she ran on the track team as a sprinter for four years, earning Academic All Canadian status every year. After graduating she pursued certification through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) as a personal trainer, high performance specialist, and then Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP). While completing these certifications she finished her Master of Science in Kinesiology looking at the effects of high intensity interval training on nocturnal hypoglycemia in people with type 1 diabetes.

Her career thus far has had a large research component and has worked on many exercise-based research projects that required CEP designation. Prior to her role at The Centre, she worked in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management as a Lab Coordinator and sessional instructor. Much of her job involved supporting the undergrad program and more specifically the lab content in many of the classes. She offered a unique perspective and was able to draw from her experiences as a student and a staff member to help make lab content come to life. She is also actively involved in CSEP and is a member of one of their national committees and has become a CSEP Instructor Examiner (IE).

Outside of work, Meaghan loves spending time with her family and friends, especially her husband and daughter. She is an avid exerciser, enjoys HIIT training, Olympic lifting, and plays ultimate frisbee in the summer.
