Computer labs

Brown & Gold Labs 110-111

The Brown and Gold Labs are located on the main floor of Dafoe Library to the right of the service desk. Both labs are available for student use during regular opening hours unless they have been reserved for workshops or class sessions.

Each lab has 16 student workstations.

All computers offer:

  • MS Office
  • SPSS (statistics software)

Brown Lab computers also provide student access to ArcGIS.

Co-Lab

The Co-Lab is an open computing area located across from the printing stations in Dafoe Library.

The Co-lab has 20 work stations available for student use during regular opening hours.

The Co-Lab also has one of Dafoe Library's two computers with full access to the Winnipeg Free Press Archives. 

Study spaces

Group study rooms

Group study rooms are unavailable at this time due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Dafoe Library has three study rooms available for students. They can be booked in advance for up to two hours using our online room booking manager.

You will need to login with your UMnet ID to reserve the room and swipe your student card to access the room.

Additional spaces ideal for group study are located in the Reference Room on the main floor of the library near the Starbucks.

Quiet study spaces

The second and third floors of Dafoe Library are designated quiet study areas. There are several study carrels with power outlets located on the second floor Mezzanine.

Additional large tables and quiet study carrels are located throughout the second and third floor for your convenience.

Graduate student study space

UM graduate students can apply to reserve a semi-private study space.

Dafoe Library has two study carrel rooms located on the second and third floors available for long term use by master’s and PhD students.

Room 239, 2nd Floor

  • Available to master’s degree students from all faculties.
  • Contains 16 study carrels & 30 lockers.
  • Carrels are unassigned; lockers are assigned – with an access key provided.
  • Access to this room is by swipe card.
  • Access expires April 30th annually, with one opportunity to renew before needing to reapply.
  • To request a grad study carrel and locker complete the application form and forward to mia.douchant@umanitoba.ca. For further inquiries contact 204-474-7483.

Room 301, 3rd Floor

  • Reserved for PhD students from all faculties.
  • Contains cubicles, each with a desk, drawers and bookshelf.
  • Cubicles are assigned upon application approval.
  • Access to this room is by swipe card.
  • Access expires August 31st annually, with two opportunities to renew before needing to reapply.
  • To request a grad study cubicle, complete the application form and forward to mia.douchant@umanitoba.ca. For further inquiries contact 204-474-7483.

Granting of graduate study space is entirely dependent upon availability.
