Accounts

A Library Print account is automatically created for UM students, faculty and staff. Other user groups may inquire about guest printing at any Libraries Service Desk.

Library Print accounts will be maintained in accordance with applicable IST policies.

Payment, cost, refunds

Payment

All UM Libraries printing is paid through your Library Print account.  Funds can be added to your Library Print account online.

Only Cash-Free Forms of Payment

  • credit card
  • pre-paid VISA card

Minimum/Maximum

Accounts may be loaded with a minimum of $1 to a maximum of $50 per transaction, in values of $1, $5,  $10, and  custom amounts.

Cost

$0.10 per page – Black & White
$1.00 per page – Colour

*Double-sided printing=two printed pages

Refunds

UM Libraries will provide a refund in the form of a credit t the user's library print account, at the discretion of Library staff, for the following reasons:

  • Paper jam for which the printer does not automatically reprint the job
  • Streaked or faded print job due to toner issues
  • Technical or equipment issues in which print job does not complete.  

Staff are unable to issue refunds for print jobs that were not retrieved from the printer before library closure at the end of the day.

Staff are unable to issue refunds to the original form of payment for unused balances on Library Print accounts.  You are advised to add only the amount of money to your Library Print account that you need. After graduating or leaving the UM, any money remaining on a Library Print account will continue to be available to be used for printing purposes.

Copyright

Copyright is taken seriously at the University. All UM community members are legally and ethically obligated to comply with copyright law.   

Use of the Library Print system must adhere to UM Copyright guidelines. For further information, copyright resources, and advice, contact the UM Copyright Office.

Privacy

UM Library Print is a print management system that allows for decentralized, shared printing. In this respect, there is no expectation of privacy or confidentiality.  

Printed works that have not been retrieved from the printer before the library closes at the end of the day will be disposed of by Libraries staff.

Step 1: Add money to your Library Print account

Your library print account is associated with your UMNetID (student card).

You can login and manage your Library Print account online, from anywhere, at any time.

Payment options

Library Print accepts two types of payment options:

  1. VISA or MasterCard credit card  - from any financial institution (RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, etc.).
  • Select the Credit Card option and choose “VISA” or "MasterCard" during the payment process.
  1. Debit Card WITH a VISA or MasterCard logo - from any financial institution (RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, etc.).
  • Select the Credit Card option and choose “VISA Debit” or “MasterCard Debit” during the payment process.

NOTE:  We cannot accept Interac Online (debit-only) payment.

If you do not have a personal credit card, a prepaid VISA card can be purchased at many stores, including UM Bookstore.

Payment instructions

  1. Login to your Library Print account.
  2. Select Add Money from the menu.
  3. Select or enter the amount you wish to add to your account and click Pay.
    • Amount: Minimum of $1 to a maximum of $50 per transaction, in values of $1, $5, $10, and custom amounts
    • Printing costs: Black & White - $0.10 per page; Colour - $1.00 per page
  4. Add your payment information and click Submit Payment.

You can check your balance at any time by logging in to your Library Print account.

Step 2: Send your document to a library printer

You can send your document to a library printer from a library computer or a personal device.

Maximum file size: 100 MB

Option 1: From a library computer

  1. From the application you are using, select File > Print or use the application’s normal print function.
  2. Ensure the printer selection is set to one of the following depending on your campus location:
    • B&W-Fort Garry-Find-Me Printer ($.10/page)
    • Colour-Fort Garry-Find-Me-Printer ($1.00/page)
    • B&W-Bannatyne-Find-Me Printer ($.10/page)
    • Colour-Bannatyne-Find-Me Printer ($1.00/page)
  3. Click the Print icon in the application that you are using. Your document is now waiting to be released at a printer.

You can check if your document was sent successfully by visiting your Library Print account. Click Jobs Pending Release in your account's menu.


Option 2: From a personal device

You can print directly from your cell phone or tablet if you are connected to the university’s secure Wi-Fi network (uofm-secure).
Get instructions for connecting to Wi-Fi.

  1. Click the link to obtain setup instructions for your device:
    Android
    iOS (iPhone or iPad)

    NOTE: Depending on the age and model of your cell phone or tablet, you may not be able to set it up for Library Print.
     
  2. Follow the setup prompts for your device.
Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing difficulties, verify that:

  • you have enabled notifications
  • you have enabled printing
  • you are connected to the university’s secure wi-fi network (uofm-secure) or that you are connected to the University’s VPN

Step 3: Release or cancel your print job

You can release your print job at a printer’s swipe release station or using mobile print release. You can also cancel your print jobs using these methods.

Option 1: At the library printer’s swipe release station

  1. Login by swiping your Student ID card.
    • Don't have your card, yet? Obtain your Student ID card.
    • If you forgot your student card, tap Log in and enter your UMNetID and password.
  2. Your print job will appear. If it does not, login to your Library Print account to check if your document was successfully sent to the printer.
  3. Tap to select the print job(s) you want to release. You may also choose to delete your print job at this time.
  4. Tap Print. If your document does not print, speak to Libraries’ staff for assistance.

Option 2: Online from your Library Print account

  1. Login to your Library Print account.
  2. Select Jobs Pending Release from the menu.
  3. Your print jobs will appear. Click the Print button beside the print job(s) you want to release, or Release All. You may choose to cancel your print job at this time.
  4. Select the printer you want to use at your desired library location. Note: To avoid unexpected charges, choose a Black and White (B&W) printer, unless you want to print in Colour.
  5. Your print job(s) will be printed immediately.

There is no assumption of confidentiality for print jobs released and left on the printer. Printed works that are not picked up before the library closes at the end of the day will be disposed of by Libraries staff.

Step 4: Pickup your print job

  1. Pickup your print job as soon as possible.

Library Print account

You can log into your Library Print account to see existing print jobs, release print jobs, view account balances, transaction history and see historical printing information.

  1. In your Internet browser, navigate to your Library Print account.
  2. Enter your Username (UMNetID) and Password.
  3. Click Log in.
    If you would like to see your account information in another language you can select the language drop down.  This resets every time you log in.

User account navigation

Navigation for your Library Print user account is on the left-hand side of the screen.

Summary shows:

  • your balance
  • print jobs
  • pages
  • environmental impact of the print jobs you have released

Transaction History provides your financial history including:

  • cost of jobs submitted
  • funds added
  • account adjustments

You can also export this information as a PDF, HTML or Excel file by clicking on the Export/Print icons.

Recent Print Jobs provides historical details on your print jobs including:

  • date printed
  • pages
  • costs
  • document name and other details

You can also export this information as a PDF, HTML or Excel file by clicking on the Export/Print icons.

Jobs Pending Release shows any jobs that are available to be released. 

  • Print and Cancel jobs
  • See the estimated value of the print job based on the Colour or B&W pages
