The following non-exhaustive list of settlement, English language, financial and employment resources are available for all internationally educated health professionals. Additionally, the Fair Registration Practices Office (FRPO) provides reports on all regulated professions in Manitoba.

Manitoba Start
Manitoba Start provides central registration services and Needs and Assets Assessment and Referral Services (NAARS) for all newcomers arriving in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Immigrant Centre Manitoba (ICM)
The Immigrant Centre provides newcomers with free programs and services including settlement, employment, language, nutrition training and verification of translations.

Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM)
IRCOM provides transitional housing, services and programs to assist newcomer families as they integrate into their community.

Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council (MIIC)
MIIC provides sponsorship to refugees as well as settlement services.

Manitoba Association of Newcomer Serving Organizations (MANSO)
MANSO links out to several support agencies for newcomers. They also provide workshops and other learning opportunities . Check their website to learn more.

English language supports

Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre (WELARC)
WELARC provides referrals for individuals to access English or French language classes. This is a common prerequisite for the other language programs linked here.

English for IEHPs at RRC Polytech
RRC Polytech offers two free language programs to help health professionals with their language and communication skills.

Enhanced English Skills for Employment (EESE)
EESE serves immigrants who have education and experience in professions and skilled occupations in business, management, or trades. The courses help clients reduce language and cultural barriers in the workplace.

English Language Centre at UM
The English Language Centre (ELC) provides courses, tests, accommodations and individual support to students whose first language is not English in order to support academic success and participation in the University of Manitoba community.

English Online
Provided by the Manitoba Association of Newcomer Serving Organizations, English Online's purpose is to provide flexible and accessible settlement and language services that enable newcomers to reach their full potential. The program is free and available online.

MITT offers free English language programs to support newcomers looking to work.

Financial assistance
There are various financial support options available to internationally educated/trained professionals residing in Manitoba. Each has its own eligibility criteria. Some financial supports are available to individuals pursuing any profession or trade. Other financial supports are specific to a profession or trade and are offered only to individual’s pursuing that occupation. Some supports are offered as grant, meaning you do not need to repay the money while others are offered at loans where you pay back the money sometimes with interest.

Recognition Counts
The Recognition Counts program provides a loan of up to $15,000 over a 4-year term to support skilled immigrants as they pursue their career. Review the eligibility criteria to determine if this program makes sense for you.
