Audiology in Manitoba

In Manitoba, audiologists work closely with other health professions in hospitals, private clinics, schools and more.

Between 2011-2021, 88 out of 107 (82%) of internationally educated speech-language pathology and audiology applicants became registered in the profession. The average time to registration was 1.3 years.

Because there are no professional programs for audiology in Manitoba, many internationally educated applicants to CASLPM are Canadians who obtained their degrees in the USA. Among the internationally educated applicants who were trained outside of the USA, 58% were registered with the profession between 2011-2021.

How to register for practice

The process to become registered to practice audiology in Manitoba is rigorous. Due to the wide range in scope of practice, the standards for entry into the profession are relatively high in our province.

  • First step

The first step to take as an internationally educated audiologist seeking credential recognition in Manitoba is to review the information provided by the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba (CASLPM), the provincial regulator for both the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology. They can assist you with questions related to the registration process.

There is no program for audiology offered in Manitoba. Due to this, the availability of bridging supports prior to registering and entering the workforce is limited.

  • Next steps

CASLPM provides a checklist (PDF) that you should refer to before you get started. The checklist will help ensure that you have, or can obtain, all the necessary documentation to avoid delays in processing your application.

You will also need to have your degree assessed by the national organization, the Canadian Alliance of Audiologists and Speech-language Pathology Regulators (CAASPR).

If you have further questions about the registration process, contact CASLPM or reach out to the Access Hub and we can help to direct you to the appropriate organization and/or resources.
