Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

As a student enrolled in a designated program in UM Extended Education, you may be able to obtain academic credit towards your program for previous learning and work experience. This Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL credit could reduce the number of courses you must complete in order to finish your certificate program by up to 50 percent.

Types of prior learning

    Certified learning

    Post-secondary courses or programs, military courses or programs, accredited certificates, workplace training programs, courses through private education providers, and more

  • icon audience

    Experiential learning

    Work experience, volunteer experience, participation on committees or boards, independent study, and more

Transfer Credit

If you would like to transfer one post-secondary course into an eligible credential, the fee is $100. You can complete and submit a Request for Transfer Credit Form.
