Extended Education Academic Regulations

The Division of Extended Education (“Extended Education”) has regulations and requirements, published below, that apply specifically to its learners that are working towards completion of a Program. Learners are obligated to be familiar with all regulations governing their continued progress in the Program. The Extended Education regulations are in alignment with University of Manitoba Policies and University of Manitoba General Academic Regulations and provide additional rules about how they apply to its learners. For questions or clarifications, please consult the Program Coordinator. Admissions and registration information, including application fees, is found on each program’s webpage on the Extended Education website.

List of Programs

Continuing education programs (“Programs”) result in a credential of Certificate or Micro-certificate (“Certificate”), a Letter of Accomplishment (“LOA”) or a Letter of Participation (“LOP”). Please visit the Extended Education website to review the programs offered.

Registration Status in a Program

In accordance with the University of Manitoba Certificate and Diploma Framework, learners registered in a Certificate Program are considered learners with student status, and learners registered in a LOA Program or LOP Program are considered learners with participant status. A learner may require an enrolment letter confirming the learner is enrolled in a Program. The learner shall contact Student Services, Extended Education to make this request and will be required to pay any associated fees.

Attendance

Learners enrolled in a course, whether in-person, online, blended or in a hybrid format, are expected to meet the attendance and participation standards relevant to their mode of study. Learners are required to meet any specific attendance and participation requirements for their Program and/or course. Please refer to the specific Program and/or course requirements.

Program Withdrawal

If a learner would like to completely withdraw from a program, they must provide the Program Coordinator with written notice of their intent to withdraw. The learner will be considered to have withdrawn from the Program with no anticipated date of return. For Intensive Programs, learners will be withdrawn from all programs they are registered in. The program application fee and course fees for completed program courses will not be refunded for a Program Withdrawal.

If, at a later date, a learner with a Program Withdrawal wishes to return to the Program, the learner must re-apply for Program admission as if they were a new applicant and in accordance with the Program admission and eligibility requirements.

Section/Course Cancellation

Extended Education reserves the right to cancel courses a minimum of ten (10) working days prior to the course start date. Learners enrolled in a course will be notified of any section/course cancellations and will be entitled to a full course fee refund.

Appeals on Academic Regulations

The Extended Education Local Disciplinary Committee meets to consider and rule on learner appeals in accordance with the Student Discipline Bylaw and Procedures.

If a learner wishes to appeal an academic regulation decision made by the Area Director (or delegate), they must first appeal to the Associate Dean (or delegate). If the appeal to the Associate Dean (or delegate) is denied, the learner may appeal the decision to the Extended Education Local Disciplinary Committee, along with all relevant documentation, filed in the Dean’s Office within ten (10) working days from the date on the decision letter from the Associate Dean (or delegate).

All academic regulation appeals from decisions of the Extended Education Local Disciplinary Committee are considered by the Senate Appeals Committee.
