Employee Communication and Coaching (HRM 0130)

This course prepares students to inform employees on matters which impact employee well-being. The topic employee communication addresses communication theory, orientation and briefing meetings, appeal and grievance procedures, staff newsletters and career workshops. The topic of coaching focuses on the professional principles, frameworks and tools needed to develop an effective coaching strategy for an organization.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • describe and apply the basic model and processes of communication
  • discuss and apply the fundamental principles of effective coaching
  • analyze the characteristics of a safe environment that encourages effective communication with employees
  • describe the roles and responsibilities of HR, leaders and employees in engagement
  • apply various tools and techniques used in employee engagement
  • develop an engagement plan for a small to medium size organization
