Your time outside the classroom will be one of the most memorable and rewarding parts of your UM experience. Whether you’re living in residence, with a host family or with fellow students near campus, you’ll enjoy more than the convenience of being close to your classes and labs: You’ll meet new people, build community and make lifelong memories.

UM offers six options for on-campus living where you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of a supportive environment with all the essentials. Watch as fifth-year student, Isaac, walks you through the campus living experience.

Living on campus

Living on campus is a great way to meet new people and have fun throughout your studies. The Fort Garry campus is home to six residences, each featuring furnished rooms and free high-speed Internet. Residence living offers a variety of meal plans, study spaces, lounges, laundry facilities and parking. Enjoy a friendly, supportive environment in your home away from home.

Don’t forget to apply early, as rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Arthur V. Mauro Student Residence

Centrally located at the junction of Dafoe Road and Maclean Crescent, the Arthur V. Mauro Student Residence has room for 316 students in 155 suites on a total of six floors.

Mary Speechly Hall

Mary Speechly Hall is a great place to dive right into university life. Here you’ll find the right combination of work and good times in a very active living space.

Pembina Hall

Built in 2011, Pembina Hall is our newest residence. We house 360 students in this contemporary, high-rise building situated above the Fresh Food Company.

University College Residence

A traditional dorm-style residence with 236 single rooms and 10 double rooms is located on the east side of campus, close to many Arts and Science buildings and classrooms, University College is a quiet place to live with the convenience of tunnel access to get to your classes on those colder winter days.

Affiliated college residences

In addition to the four primary residences on the Fort Garry campus, St. John’s College and St. Andrew’s College also offer on-campus accommodations.

Homestay

Through the English Language Centre's Homestay program, you can live in a Canadian home while learning at UM. Living with a Canadian host family provides you with the comforts of home and the opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture and community.
