Degree Opportunities

Coop Programs

Coop programs allow students to gain job-ready skills while completing their degree. Through the coop program, students participate in 3 placements in related fields, allowing them to gain technical knowledge, professional development and a network of connections to allow them to move seamlessly into a career at the end of their degree.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Students in the Department of Environment and Geography have a number of different opportunities to take part in academic research. These opportunities increase your depth of knowledge, provide valuable professional training and set students up for future academic work. The primary opportunities are the Honours Thesis, The undergraduate research awards and departmental field courses. Students also have the opportunities for independent research projects and summer employment based on faculty research.

Student Groups

University of Manitoba Weather Club

The University of Manitoba Weather Club is a community of students who share an interest in atmospheric science, storm chasing, severe weather, or even just a love for the Twister movies! The club is open to all students with no requirement to be pursuing a degree in atmospheric science. Throughout the year, the club will host meetings to discuss upcoming events, as well as presentations from professionals in the atmospheric science and climatology fields

The MEIA Student Chapter is a student branch of MEIA designed for university and college students who wish to enhance their knowledge of the environmental industry and to network with potential future employers. We hold networking events, create opportunities for volunteering, host training and professional development sessions, and provide scholarship opportunities. Environment and Geography Students Association (EGSA)


The Environment and Geography Students Association is a student run council in the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth and Resources. The UMWetlanders is a Ducks Unlimited Canada Campus Club with the goal of engaging and empowering students to create positive change for wetlands, biodiversity and nature. We host outreach events, fundraising events, social events, contribute to new and existing conservation projects, and create opportunities for career development and hands-on learning.
