Financial Aid and Awards manages $17 million dollars in scholarships and bursaries to students each year. Be sure to check their awards database for awards applicable to you.
In more urgent need? Financial Aid and Awards offers short-term emergency loans and use of the UM food bank, among other programs.
It's best to contact Career Services, which has a diverse array of expertise and tools to help you plan your career path (figure out where you degree will take you) or determine the best path for where you want to be.

An academic advisor can help you understand your academic options and/or the degree program that you’re currently enrolled in – how the courses you’re taking fit into various paths, as well as courses you might be taking in the future.

A career consultant can help you connect a degree to employment opportunities and help you see where various academic paths may lead you on your career path.

Some jobs have very specific academic paths required, whereas others are much more flexible and have many options to get there, which may or may not require a university degree.

It’s best to connect with Peer Helpers through Student Life. Peer Helpers are trained students who are there to listen and share their experiences with you. They can even help you find ways to meet new people and get involved on campus.

Join the CEL Virtual Community Centre, developed to create an online space where students can help others and find community.

There are also countless UMSU Student Groups and Student Associations to connect with. Check the UM Student Communities page too.

International Centre has opportunities for you to learn more about adapting to Canadian culture and meet other students from around the world.

Indigenous Student Centre has opportunities to get involved with the Indigenous community on campus.

Peer support:
  • Peer Helpers: Consider connecting with a Peer Helper through Student Life. Peer Helpers are trained students who are there to listen and share their experiences with you.
  • Mentoring Programs: Joining a mentoring program is a great way to connect with other students (whether you’re the one giving or receiving the support).
  • UMSU Student Groups: There are countless clubs on campus for students with common interests ranging from a hobby or social cause, to religion or culture, and more.
Professional support:

There are lot of places to help you find connection with the U of M community. Learn about our student communities online.

Student Life is a good place to connect with if you’re not sure where to start. A staff member or Peer Helper can help you navigate the various options available to you.
