Our purpose

  • Act as a liaison between the retirees and the university.

    Promote an environment of engagement and learning by continuing the associations that members enjoyed as employees.

    Defend the interests of retirees in the pension and benefit plans of the university.

  • Support the goals and vision of the UM community through student awards.

    Organize recreational, educational, and other events of benefit to members.

    Facilitate interaction with other retirees and organizations as a means for sharing information on issues of interest to retirees.

UMRA newsletter

Our newsletters are published twice a year in the spring and fall. They include articles about various UMRA activities and events, what our former colleagues are doing, what’s happening on campus, and more.

The 53rd President's Reception held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 featured keynote speaker, Dr. Kristin Reynolds, University of Manitoba, Psychology, Arts. Dr. Reynold's presentation, The Science of Connections and the Art of Connecting in Retirement can be viewed here.

Giving back

  • Scholarships and bursaries

    Through our donations and membership, UMRA supports student learning and research initiatives through the University of Retirees Association Bursary and the University of Retirees Scholarship Award. It also provides the second place prize in a UM thesis competition.

The University of Manitoba Retirees Association (UMRA) gained its official recognition by the University of Manitoba May 14, 2003. UMRA is a founding member of the College and University Retiree Associations of Canada (CURAC).
