Following on the heels of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s “Calls to Action,” the institutional members of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities of Canada (ACCUC) released a report in 2017 titled Dialogue Together With Action: Canada’s Catholic Colleges and Universities & the Road to Reconciliation. The report was launched in Ottawa on October 24, 2017, and presented to the past Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Senator Murray Sinclair. The national report was comprehensive and provided an account of the many actions already underway among the Canadian Catholic post-secondary institutions to promote and nurture Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
On October 3, 2023, ACCUC released Action, Dialogue, Truth and Reconciliation: A Report of Canada’s Catholic Colleges and Universities as a follow-up to the 2017 report. As per the initial report, this latest report provides concrete examples of work being done across Canada to promote Truth and Reconciliation, such as
- Actions in strategic planning;
- Revising our governance structures;
- Expanding community relations; and
- Promoting Reconciliation within our research activities and in our classrooms.
While much work has been accomplished, our Catholic colleges and universities still have a long way to go.
The Action, Dialogue, Truth and Reconciliation: A Report of Canada’s Catholic Colleges and Universities is available on our St. Paul’s College website:
