Take part in the orientation week
UM Orientation is one of the largest events on campus, involving over 6,000 students, staff, and volunteers. This event introduces new students to our campus and prepares them for university life with academic sessions and workshops.
At the Faculty of Science, the Science Students Association together with the Office of the Dean plan events that offer fun opportunities not only to meet fellow students but to engage with professors and network with alumni to discover what a future in science might hold.
Please contact Horace Luong, associate dean, for additional information.
Engage in community outreach programs
Become a champion for science. The Faculty of Science and our departments run a variety of outreach and citizen science programs that welcome alumni, and public and industry involvement.

Hire a student – Become a Co-op employer
The Faculty of Science Co-operative Education Program is a planned learning process that integrates classroom study with paid work experience. Undergraduate Co-op students alternate academic terms with work terms in positions relevant to their major field of study. Co-operative Education blends theory and practice for the student and strengthens ties between participating employers and The University of Manitoba. The Science Co-op Program has helped many employers meet their temporary staffing needs. You’ll have access to enthusiastic and talented students for 4 or 8-month work terms.
Students in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Genetics, and Statistics are available through the Science Co-op Program.
The success of the Science Co-op Program depends on the work experience provided by our Co-op employers. We thank our Co-op employers for the important contribution they make to our program.
If you are considering hiring a Co-op student, please contact us. We would be happy to discuss the Science Co-op Program and how it might fit your hiring needs.
