• About the program

The third-year clerkship offers medical students an immersive experience in northern and rural Canada, providing the opportunity to explore the historical, cultural, and socioeconomic aspects of life in these regions.

    Students will:

    • Gain insight into life in a First Nations or Inuit community, including its culture, geography, climate, history, demographics, and economy, through community living and assigned readings.
    • Participate in primary health care and public health delivery, engaging in ambulatory clinics, inpatient care, home visits, and community health activities.
    • Develop an understanding of the health status of a First Nations or Inuit community and the interconnections between health care and other aspects of community life through clinical work, home visits, and community involvement.
  • A woman with several sled dogs in a snowy scene.
