Junior Bisons Volleyball Club Teams

Junior Bisons Club offers competitive club teams in volleyball and basketball.

  • The Junior Bisons Volleyball Club (JBVC) is one of the premier and most successful youth volleyball clubs in Canada. Under the expert guidance of Ken Bentley and Lupo Ludwig we offer opportunities for all levels of athletes aged 12-18 to develop volleyball skills, tactical knowledge and fitness, JBVC guarantees a training experience that will lead to success whether athletes are new to the sport or aspiring to progress to post-high school competition.

Volleyball Club Program Overview

Since 2009, the JBVC has been a leader in the training and advancement of elite-level coaching. Coaches are offered established programs focused on educating, mentoring and practical application to ensure that a consistent system and philosophy is delivered throughout the entire club.

All JBVC teams are considered both developmental and competitive. Training is designed to enhance an athlete’s ability within their appropriate developmental range. All participants are trained with attention given to their individual capabilities and will be exposed to a training environment that promotes improvement in various volleyball-specific skills.

All teams are created so that structure, organization and implementation will take place to ensure a successful season therefore, consideration is given to selection of players and coaches, and team distribution.

Additionally, JBVC teams have access to the University of Manitoba’s state-of-the-art High Performance Centre in the Active Living Centre for strength and conditioning, multiple gymnasiums for on-court training and the UM sport science team, including sport psychologists and nutritionists (at each coach’s discretion).

Each year, club team tryouts are offered in December. Tryouts are open to any interested volleyball players within Manitoba.

Junior Bisons Mini Volleyball

The Junior Bison Mini Volleyball program will be led by Ken Bentley and Lupo Ludwig and their University of Manitoba Bison Coaching staff and athletes in conjunction with the Junior Bison Coaching Staff. Mini Volleyball is open to both boys and girls.

Mini-Volley is an approach of initiating people to the game of volleyball. The traditional game is adapted to the specific needs and abilities of the participants. These adaptations include varying the number of players, altering the court size, adjusting the height of the net and using bigger and lighter balls. Different game formats such as 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3 and 4 vs 4 are used. Various rules are also adapted to encourage longer rallies and decrease the difficulty of sill execution. The objective of these adaptations is to encourage learning, promote success and increase the enjoyment for the participants. When the game is properly adapted for the age and abilities of the participants, they experience more success, enjoy the activity, and want to play more often!
