Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS)

Our mission is to train outstanding physician assistant clinicians as generalist medical providers to serve communities in Manitoba and across Canada. Through leading the field in academic preparation of physician assistants, we nurture future leaders in the profession, meeting the needs of students, patients, the public, government and employers. We are proud to teach reflective medicine that considers the full patient narrative, always seeking to improve access to high-quality medical care by placing the patient first.

What we offer

We are proud to have established Canada’s first graduate-level physician assistant (PA) educational program, along with a shadowing program for students preparing to enter the profession. Our leadership in the field was instrumental in the creation of subsequent master’s level PA programs in other provinces.

Master of Physician Assistant Studies

Our program consists of 96 weeks of medical education in a nationally accredited program. The comprehensive curriculum prepares medical generalists to be adaptable to any clinical environment, including primary health care, specialty practice, consulting or hospital-based roles.

Undergraduate Research Awards

Each year, the University of Manitoba provides a multitude of unique learning opportunities through the undergraduate research awards. This program allows undergraduate students to interact with the best minds and research leaders in their fields. This experience opens them up to new possibilities for a research career in either government, academic or industry sectors.

Accreditation

The University of Manitoba Master of Physician Assistant Studies has maintained National accreditation since 2010. As of 2021, the program’s accreditation is with Accreditation Canada.

The Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) has agreed to recognize the graduates of nationally accredited physician assistant programs as eligible for entry to the physician assistant certification examination, provided that the program confirms their ongoing compliance with accreditation requirements.
