Apply for undergraduate studies
Get ready to begin your application for undergraduate studies by ensuring you meet the admission requirements and gathering everything you need to apply. Once you've submitted your application, you can check your application status and accept your offer.
How to apply
1. Ensure you meet the admission requirements
Admission requirements are minimum qualifications, experiences and skills you need in order to be considered for admission into a program.
The university has admission requirements that all prospective undergraduate students must meet, regardless of the program of study:
- General undergraduate admission requirements
- English language proficiency requirements
- International student admission requirements
Program-specific admission requirements
In addition, each undergraduate program at UM has its own set of unique admission requirements. To find out what the requirements are for the program you're interested in, select your faculty, college or school in the Find admission requirements and begin your application section on this page. The applicant information bulletin PDFs include all the details you need to find out whether you meet the admission requirements.
Are you a direct entry or advanced entry student?
- You are a direct entry student if you are a current high school student or you have already graduated from high school, but you have completed fewer than 24 credit hours of post-secondary level study. All direct entry applicants will automatically be considered for University 1 if you are not offered admission to your preferred program.
- You are an advanced entry student if you have more than 24 credit hours of post-secondary level study.
Each of our university programs has specific admission requirements based on these two categories. Be sure you meet the specific requirements for your program.
2. Gather what you need to complete your application
Most undergraduate applications are completed online. Step-by-step instructions are included within the application. Before you begin, it can be helpful to make sure you're ready to provide the following:
- Your basic information (including address, date of birth, etc.)
- Details of your current and prior education, including start and end dates
- An application fee
- $100 for Canadian citizens, permanent residents and refugees
- $120 for international students
Depending on your background and program of study, you may also need to provide:
- Transcripts and course information from previous studies
- Proof of English language proficiency
- A personal statement about your goals for the program
- A portfolio of your previous work
- An audition or interview
These application requirements vary by program, so please be sure to check the applicant information bulletin for your program by selecting your faculty, college or school in the Begin your application section on this page.
Application and documentation deadlines vary by program. Both the application form and the application fee must be received in our office by the application deadline date in order to be considered.
Submitting your documents
Some documents can be uploaded directly into your online application, while others must be mailed. Specific submission instructions are provided within the application. Please ensure you submit all documents by the deadline and in the format specified.
If you are submitting hard-copy original documents, please send them by registered mail or courier to ensure they don't get lost. Transcripts and other academic documents become university property once they are submitted and will not be returned.
Once you have submitted your application and paid the fee, we will review your application. Check your application portal regularly to see if we have requested additional documentation.
