Entomology (Minor)

Entomology is the study of basic and applied science related to insects and their allies. The Department of Entomology works to advance the understanding of these incredibly diverse and abundant organisms, with an emphasis on crop protection entomology, ecosystem health, parasite and disease management, insect biodiversity and systematics, and insect behaviour and physiology. It offers an entomology minor open to students in all faculties.

Why choose an Entomology minor?

A minor in Entomology is applicable in almost any career in the horticultural, agricultural, biological and environmental fields. Insects are pollinators, parasites, predators and scavengers of food. They are found in almost every environment and their diversity is a measure of ecosystem health.

The Entomology minor consists of 18 credit hours of courses offered by the Department of Entomology.

  • ENTM 2050: Introductory Entomology (3 credit hours)
  • ENTM 1000: World of Bugs (3 credit hours)
  • ENTM 3170: Crop Protection Entomology (3 credit hours)
  • ENTM 3160: Veterinary and Wildlife Entomology (3 credit hours)
  • ENTM 3180: Field Techniques in Entomology (3 credit hours)
  • ENTM 3190: Introduction to Applied Entomology (3 credit hours)
