Executive-Education-Project-Oversight

Why this program?

Regardless of project size and risk, you will emerge from this program with the concepts and tools to create an effective project governance framework that will drive project success.

The keys to good project governance are well-defined decision rights and information flow - top traits linked to project success - while poor project governance is the main cause of project failure.

No governance role is more important to project performance than the project sponsor. Much like the board of directors provides oversight for an organization, a project board or steering committee provides oversight for a project. The project sponsor leads the board and uses the project’s business case to define boundaries for the project manager to improve project outcomes.

This program examines how project boards, advisory groups, working groups and project teams work together to deliver results. You’ll learn the purpose of each group, who belongs in them, their roles and responsibilities. You’ll learn how to select the right sponsor for every project, and how a great project sponsor successfully guides the project manager to deliver the project’s value.

This program also explores how to scale and flex the governance model to accommodate projects of varying size and risk. Using real-world examples, and drawing on your own experiences, you’ll learn what works and what common pitfalls to avoid.

Professional Development Units (PDUs)

Completion of this program qualifies for 14 Project Management Institute (PMI) Professional Development Units (PDUs). This program is not suitable if you’re seeking Contact Hours prior to writing your PMP exam.

Please note that this is not a project management program. Project management is a rich and complex domain, and we offer other courses specifically for project managers. This program is for executives and managers who want to take the concept of a “project steering committee” and turn it into a fully-fledged governance structure that creates an environment where project managers will thrive.
