People of Ukrainian heritage have made a significant social, economic and cultural contribution to Canada. The study of this community, its past and present, provides an understanding of the Ukrainian heritage and its role in Canadian society.
This interdisciplinary program encourages students to pursue their own topics of interests within a Ukrainian Canadian context. Students may explore the intersection of Ukrainian and Canadian history, political and economic impacts, culture, religious experiences and art. This is the only degree program of its kind in Canada.
The Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies (CUCS) creates, preserves and communicates knowledge about Ukrainian Canadian culture and scholarship. The centre coordinates the Ukrainian Canadian Heritage Studies program and courses, offers a Letter of Participation program, promotes research, hosts events and serves as a resource centre for those interested in Ukrainian Canadian studies.
UMUkrn looks to celebrate Ukrainian Canadian culture through events both on and off campus. Student group activity may be impacted by the number of volunteers available in a given year.
There are a number of scholarships and awards available to students through the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies.
