The Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences is excited to announce the launch of a new Combined Masters Practicum program in dietetics. The Master of Applied Human Nutrition (MAHN) program will be a one year, three-semester program consisting of graduate course work and competency based practical experience.

The MAHN program will be a specialized program for students who have completed an undergraduate degree from an undergraduate nutrition program accredited by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) within the last three years.

October 2021 update

The Manitoba Partnership Dietetic Education Program (MPP) has been approved to continue for one more year (2022-23).

August 2021 update

Our last MAHN update stated that we would host an online information session in August; however, this session will be postponed as we have no additional information to share. We will schedule this session for late September after confirmation is provided whether the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) Accreditation Council will allow the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority-Manitoba Partnership Dietetic Education Program (MPP) to continue their dietetic practicum program for the 2022-23 session. In the likely (but not guaranteed) event that MPP proceeds with a 2022-23 intake, we will provide information on the modified application process.

We strongly encourage students who plan to apply for dietetic practicum training for the 2022-23 session to start preparing their resumes. Online group cover letter/resume writing sessions will be held in Fall 2021 by the University of Manitoba Career Services. Information about these sessions will be emailed to students in advance.

If you have any questions about the MAHN program please contact Dr. Joyce Slater at joyce.slater@umanitoba.ca.

July 2021 update

  1. MAHN Proposed Start Date - The proposed start date of the first intake for MAHN is Fall 2023 to allow for the time needed for the proposal to be vetted and considered through internal University of Manitoba, provincial, and accreditation body approval processes.
  2. WRHA-MPP Extension - The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority has agreed to extend the Manitoba Partnership Dietetic Education Program (MPP) internship program for one more year, 2022-23. This requires approval from the national accreditation body, Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP), who are considering the one-year extension request and will provide a decision in mid-September, 2021. Should the extension be approved, a modified application process will be developed for students to apply in Fall 2021 for one of 20 MPP internship spots, starting Fall 2022.  We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
  3. Online Information Session - The Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences will host an online information session later this summer (TBA) to answer questions about the MAHN program. Another information session will be held in September 2022.
