Preceptor information

What is a MAHN preceptor?

A MAHN preceptor is an experienced professional who mentors MAHN students in applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. They collaborate closely with students over a set period, aiding in the development of new skills aligned with the Integrated Competencies for Dietetic Education and Practice (ICDEP). These competencies define the minimum set of practice abilities that dietitians are expected to possess at entry-level and are required when taking the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE). MAHN Preceptors set expectations, offer feedback, and provide opportunities for students to meet their learning goals. Their guidance is crucial in the development of competent and ethical professionals in dietetics.

MAHN preceptors contribute their expertise across various sectors, including public health, governmental agencies, schools, hospitals, food industry, primary care clinics, and privately funded organizations. With knowledge and support in these diverse settings, MAHN preceptors play an integral role in the professional development of future dietitians.
