• In our graduate programs, you can study and research in several disciplines related to animal science. These include nutrition (monogastric and ruminant), physiology (digestive, environmental, reproductive), animal welfare (health, production, behaviour), meat science, food safety and basic sciences (immunology, microbiology, molecular biology). Our main species of interest include cattle (beef and dairy), poultry (chickens, laying hens, turkeys), swine and wildlife (bison).

    Some faculty members also have an interest in human disease processes. Our department has a strong emphasis on sustainable agricultural systems and the use of mathematical models to describe these systems.

Choose your program

Admission to the MSc Program normally requires a BSc (Agriculture) degree with a major in animal science. Students with other degrees (e.g. BSc honours or general in science) may be accepted. Depending on your academic background, a pre-master program or additional courses may be required. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 in the last two full years of undergraduate study is required. The master programs require a minimum one year of study and research.

The requirements for admission to a PhD Program are either an MSc degree in animal science or equivalent or a BSc (Agriculture) degree or equivalent. In both instances a minimum GPA of 3.5 is required.

A grade of at least C+ is required for each course included in MSc or PhD programs. In addition, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for the total number of courses taken in a program.
