Mentorship
Our residency program is built on a strong foundation of mentorship. You’ll work closely with experienced faculty who are deeply invested in your growth, offering personalized guidance throughout your training. Whether it’s honing your technical skills, navigating challenging cases, or planning your career path, you’ll have direct access to mentors who are committed to helping you achieve your full potential as a surgeon.
Earn your MSc
While you enhance your surgical skills, you’ll also have the chance to advance your academic qualifications. As a resident in the University of Manitoba’s General Surgery program, you can work toward a Master of Science (MSc) degree alongside your residency. This combined pathway lets you build research expertise, expand your qualifications, and create more opportunities for your career in surgery or academia.
Diverse experiences
Our program offers you diverse and comprehensive training experiences. With over 35 full-time and numerous part-time faculty members, you’ll be exposed to a wide range of surgical disciplines, from general surgery to specialized fields. Whether you're managing complex trauma cases or participating in intricate procedures, your clinical experience will be both broad and in-depth. This hands-on approach prepares you to confidently step into any surgical environment, be it academic, community, or a subspecialty fellowship in Canada or the U.S.
