Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialty Education program at the Max Rady College of Medicine offers a comprehensive five-year training to enhance your skills in treating neurologic, musculoskeletal, and cardiorespiratory impairments. You’ll gain hands-on experience with advanced techniques like ultrasound-guided chemodenervation and interventional spinal procedures, and prepare for EMG certification through focused training in Clinical EMG and Neuromuscular Diseases. The program includes engaging academic rounds, diverse clinical rotations, and opportunities for both national and international electives, all supported by a team of expert physiatrists dedicated to your development.

Our Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialty Education program, part of a five-year Royal College of Canada Specialty, prepares you to make a significant impact through diverse interventional practices, sports medicine, and work with individuals of all ages with disabilities.

Learn from experts and engage in comprehensive education

Join weekly academic rounds where you'll explore basic sciences, general rehabilitation topics, and examination skills. You'll have direct access to staff who are dedicated to supporting you throughout your training, providing continuous guidance and being a valuable resource from start to finish.

Achieve certification and broaden your horizons

Our training emphasizes Clinical EMG and Neuromuscular Diseases, setting you up for EMG certification by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (CSCN) and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM). Additionally, you can expand your knowledge and experience by participating in up to six months of electives, both interprovincially and internationally, as well as engaging in inpatient and outpatient physiatry rotations.

Gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge techniques

In our program, you'll delve into advanced treatment techniques for musculoskeletal diseases, such as ultrasound-guided chemodenervation and musculoskeletal injections. You'll also have the opportunity to observe and participate in interventional spinal procedures performed by cross-appointed faculty physiatrists, gaining invaluable hands-on experience.
