Emergency medicine ultrasound model recruitment
The Department of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Program conducts training sessions for physicians in point-of-care-ultrasound in order for us to improve patient care. Through the simulation of real life scenarios, our learners have the opportunity to develop their skills in a safe and controlled learning environment — in order to create true-to-life settings, we’re always looking for models to act as patients for the delivery of our courses.

Before you attend Important information
Below are a few things to note to help you prepare for your registered session.
Pre-session
If you must eat prior to your appointment, do so in very light moderation as not to produce gas which results in unreadable scans. Refreshments will be provided for you afterwards.
What to wear/bring
- A build-up of gel is very likely to occur, so please wear clothes that are loose, comfortable and washable, and ones that easily expose your tummy/chest area.
- You will also be provided with a hospital gown depending on your preference.
- A change of clothes is highly recommended for afterwards.
- You will be on a bed for about 1.5 to 2 hours having scans done by a rotation of physicians - you are welcome to bring an iPod, book, etc., or simply rest during the scanning exams.
When to arrive
We ask that you please arrive at least 30 minutes before your appointment time, as the confirmed appointment time is when you are to be on the exam table. Please let us know if there are any issues or concerns.
Where to go
The Clinical Simulation and Learning Facility (CLSF) is located in the basement of the John Buhler Research Centre – JBRC (or more commonly known as the Brodie Centre) at 727 McDermot Ave.
Enter through the front doors and take the elevators located behind the Bookstore on the main floor. To access the elevators you will pass the Bookstore entrance, round the corner and head down a short hallway - don't take the elevators directly in front of the Bookstore
If you are parked around the Health Sciences Centre, either William or Sherbrook parkades, please follow blue floor lines to come out on the west side of HSC (the old emergency doors), across the parking lot, to the side entrance of the JBRC.
Take the elevators just inside the doors and press “B” to get you to the basement level.
If you get lost along the way, there are people who can direct you. You can also reach us on the day of the scan (contact Anthony or Ericka).
