What you can do

Get your free library card

You will need your Alumni number to claim your free library card. Request your alumni number by emailing Alumni Relations at alumni@umanitoba.ca.

Alumni who graduated in or after 2015 (if you have an @myumanitoba email address)

Login to SignUM using your UMNetID:

  • Select “Request Access” – press the “Request for Self” option that appears.
  • From the list of categories, add “Libraries” to your cart. Click "Next"
  • Under "Justification" add your Alumni Number.
  • Click "Submit."

Allow up to 24 hours for account to activate.

Account renewal

  • You will receive an email when your account is up for renewal.
  • You will need to login to SignUM to and re-accept the usage agreement.
  • Annual renewal required.

NOTE: If you claimed your account through SignUM, you will use your UM ID card as your Alumni card and your UM email address will stay active indefinitely.

Alumni who graduated prior to 2015

  • You will receive an email when your account is up for renewal.
  • You will need to contact us via email, or visit any UM Library in person, to renew your access.
  • Annual renewal required.

Access electronic resources

On campus

Alumni may access all electronic resources while on campus or visiting a UM library.

  • Your 14-Digit Library ID and password may be requested for authentication.

Off campus/remote

A smaller number of electronic resources are available from off-campus, due to license agreements.

  • Check the Alumni Databases A-Z list for databases accessible off-campus or remotely, such as from home.
  • All electronic resources are to be used for research, study and teaching and not for commercial purposes.

Scan materials

Printing is not available for guests; however, there are options for downloading and sending content from the Guest Kiosk.

A stand-alone scanner may also be available for scanning print material and sending it to an email address.  Check with the library's service desk.
