The Libraries is comprised of seven libraries as well as the Archives and Special Collections unit. Please see below for location-specific accessibility notes you may wish to keep in mind prior to your planned visit.

Summary
- The Architecture/Fine Arts library is difficult for wheelchair users to access. A wheelchair accessible door is located at the bottom of the loading area if arriving by car and off the tunnel if arriving inside from another building. The building elevator is close to this entrance. The elevator must be used to go to the 2nd level (main floor) to access the library.
- The library door is narrow unless both sides are fully opened. Staff can assist. In order to use the collection in the basement of the library a wheel-chair user must return to the elevator and go to the basement level. A staff member will meet the user at the back door of the library, accompany them into the book stacks and assist them in finding the required material.

- There are two designated accessible parking spaces in the loading area.

Building and Library entrances
- The Russell Building is not accessible by wheelchair from the outside. Users must enter via the loading dock area or via the tunnel system.
Elevator
- There is no elevator in the library. Users must use the elevator located in the Russell building and ask staff for assistance to gain entrance to the lower level of the library.
Washrooms
- There are wheelchair accessible washrooms on the lower (basement) level and on the third floor of the Russell Building.
Computers
- Computers are available on both levels of the library.
- There is no computer lab in the library.
Equipment
- One height-adjustable table in the main floor Reading Room.
- Accessible counter at Service Desk.

Building and Library entrances
- Main entrance has good wheelchair access.
- There are accessible building entrances on the east and west wings of the Taché Arts Complex. Enter at ground level, then proceed to the elevator and go to the 200 level. The library is a short distance down the hall from the elevator, in the centre of the Complex.

- There are two elevators in the building, one each in the east and west wings.
Washrooms
- Closest washrooms are located on either side of the library, immediately opposite the elevators.
- Most washrooms in the Taché Arts Complex are accessible.

Parking
- North side of B lot, in front of University College Residence, and N lot on Chancellors Circle have designated accessible parking.

- There are a few designated accessible parking spaces in B Lot close to the entrance to Fletcher Argue Building. After going through two sets of doors at the entrance to the Fletcher Argue Building, you will pass by IST Help & Solution Center on your left. Shortly, you will see the first right turn. Within 7-8 meters from the corner, across from Greenhouse Cafe, you will find an elevator that will take you to the main floor of the Dafoe Library. If you need any assistance, please contact Service Desk at the Dafoe Library, 204-474-9844.
Building and Library entrances
- Elizabeth Dafoe Library is at street level on 25 Chancellors Circle with accessible doors to the building.
- To get there using a wheelchair, enter the front doors off of 25 Chancellors Circle. Use the accessibility door to enter the library.

Elevator
- Main elevator goes to all 3 floors, and a ramp is by the entrance to the Archives on the 3rd floor.
- Additional elevator connected to the tunnel of the building, and to the exit right across from Green Cafe. This route connects the Library's main floor to the Fletcher Argue Building exit to B Lot.
Washrooms
- Accessible on the main floor.
Computers
- Computers are set up on pillars and are at desk level.
- The two computer labs have a standard width door.
Book stacks
- Reference book stacks on the main floor are well spaced
- Second & Third Floor book stacks range from narrow to wide depending on the sections of shelves.
- Mezzanine area on the second floor is not wheelchair accessible.
Accessibility Room 201
Room 201A is designated as a safe study space in Elizabeth Dafoe Library. The room is designated for use by those who require an accommodation for an accessible space.
Accessibility Support Room (201A) is located on the 2nd floor of the Dafoe Library, with easy access from elevator exit.
The Room is equipped with:
- Height-adjustable table
- Large-size table
- Anti-glare lamps
- Scanner
- MS Windows public workstation with monitor and internet access
- Ergonomically adjustable chair

- Check in at the Dafoe Service Desk at the end of your booking to inform staff that you are finished using the room.

Room booking policy
- Students who wish to use the room must be referred by Student Accessibility Services.
- The room is booked on a first-come-first-served basis for a maximum duration of 2 hours at a time.
- You can request a longer period if there is no apparent demand at the end of your initial booking, up to a maximum of 4 hours per day. Please check in at the Service Desk or call 204-474-9844 to request an extension to your booking.
Room rules
Room 201A is designated as a safe study space in Elizabeth Dafoe Library.
Please be aware of the following rules:
- Do not consume food in the room. Students who may have severe allergies with peanuts, citrus, fish, or shellfish products may use the room. Lidded beverages are permitted.
- Refrain from using any perfume, cologne, or other scented products. This is a scent-free zone.
- Maintain the original condition of the room. Before you leave the room, restore all the chairs and tables to the original position and clear all garbage. Please do not leave anything behind.
- Leave the blinds in the half-open position. If you need to close all the blinds, please NOTIFY SERVICE DESK about your requirement at the beginning of your booking. At the end of the booking, please RESTORE to the default, half-open position.

Summary
- The library is accessible to wheelchair users, but the route is very confusing. Please call the Library (204-474-8585) for assistance before your visit.
- Elevator is in the Sinnott Building, through a corridor, west of the main (Belltower) entrance. Level surface travel requires moving south through the Sinnott Building, then east to the cafeteria, south to a locker room, west down a slope, then north again to the library entrance.

- There are two designated parking spots in the front U-shaped driveway (near the Belltower). For further information on Accessible Parking contact Parking services at 204-474-9483.

- Library has a pair of 33.5” doors with grab handles on the outside. Entrance is spacious and security apparatus doesn’t have a turnstile or gate.

- Computers are located to right of library entrance
- There’s an IST lab, south and down the hall from the library.
- The door to the lab is a standard door. (36 inches).

- Located in the cafeteria (accessible stall).
- Secondary washrooms are located west of the cafeteria outside Lecture Theatre 100. (accessible stall).

- To get there in a wheelchair, enter through the ramp by Allen and Armes Building, then head to Machray Hall.

- Located on the main floor on the left past the circulation desk
Washrooms
- None on the main floor - need to use the ones outside the library.
- All other floors have washrooms but they are not wheelchair accessible.
Computers
- Computers are at desk level.
- Computer Labs doors are standard width.
Book stacks
- The first level is spacious. Other floors have narrower stacks that can be difficult to navigate.
- All circulating items are available for a 2-hour loan period.
Equipment
- Two height-adjustable tables (one with the iMac, the other by the windows)
- One 27-inch iMac
- You can bring and upload your individually customized profile or configure the machine by going into System Preferences = > Universal Design. When you are finished with the machine, please select “Restart” from the Apple menu, at the left top-corner of the machine. Please ask for assistance at the Desk.

- The Brodie Centre is at street level building with automatic doors.
- To get there in a wheelchair, enter the front doors off of McDermot Avenue. Use the accessibility door to your right in the breezeway. Once inside, go to the elevator past the bookstore, take the elevator to the M1 level (mezzanine), exit to the right towards the library.

- Located behind the circular stairwell opposite the entrance to the library.
Washrooms
- Public washrooms in the library have been adapted for access and are on the second level.
- Additional washrooms are available outside the library to the right, through the double-wide accessible doors. The washrooms will be to your right when you pass through the two white doors. These washrooms are wheelchair accessible.

- Computers are at desk level.
Computer labs
- The two computer labs have standard width doors.
- The computers and the desks they sit on are not easily accessible by wheelchair users.
Book stacks
- The first level contains public access computers and low book shelves spread throughout the room.
- The second (300) level stacks are arranged perpendicular in the centre of the two wings and are moderately spaced.
