Roads and Sidewalks/Pathways

  • Due to seasonal weather conditions please take additional care when travelling on campus. Be cautious of current roadway and walkway conditions and adapt travel plans accordingly. Urgent Road Closure - Sifton Rd

  • Overview: Sifton Road construction will continue through the fall with occasional detours and lane closures expected. Starting on Tuesday, October 1 there will be a partial closure of Sifton Road at Sidney Smith Street. A detour will be in place through parking lot Q (see map). Construction is anticipated to last the week with Sifton Road reopening on or before Monday, October 7. Construction will continue in the area through November.
    •    In order to reduce delays, interim pick-up and drop-off locations have been identified across the Fort Garry campus. See map for locations.
    •    Please plan accordingly. Some delays may be experienced during peak times. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Caution should be taken at all times. City of Winnipeg Construction – University Crescent

  • Overview: Work on University Crescent continues this fall with new underground infrastructure work commencing September 9, 2024 and lasting the end of December 2024. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in either direction from Thatcher Drive to Markham Road. In early October, work from Dysart Rd. to Thatcher Dr. will commence and additional lane closures are expected. In May 2025, reconstruction of University Crescent from Thatcher Drive to Dysart Road will commence. See UM Today Story for further information.

Road Construction and Infrastructure Renewal

    Please be advised that campus wide road construction and infrastructure renewal is expected to commence Monday, Aprill 22 and continue until the end of August. Please refer to the attached map 1 and information below:

    •    Zone 1: Sifton Road reconstruction as part of the Southwood Circle redevelopment will commence Monday, April 22. Parking Lot ABC and St. Andrew’s Parking Lot will be impacted periodically. See map 2 for Phase 1 and map 3 for Phase 2. Emergency vehicle access maintained throughout construction. See previous story: UM Today | Southwood Circle construction: Road closures and detours (umanitoba.ca) for additional impacts to active transportation routes.
    •    Zone 2: Phase 2 of the Dysart Road steam/condensate replacement will commence late May early June at the corner of Sidney Smith Street and Dysart Road. Access to Parking Lot Q will be detoured. 
    •    Zone 3: University Crescent warranty repairs and seasonal landscape work, including boulevard restoration, will commence this summer. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Occasional lane closures can be expected.
    •    City of Winnipeg construction: Work on University Crescent continues with new underground infrastructure. Maclean Crescent - Traffic Restriction

  • Overview: Maclean Pilot project will restrict traffic from heading north into the campus core from Maclean Crescent while delineating formalized pick-up and drop-off zones, seating nodes, and on-street accessible parking.
    •    Northbound traffic will not continue through to Dafoe Road from Maclean Crescent, and must turn left (west) onto Service Road 2S before exiting campus on Service Road 1S
    •    A row of on-street parking stalls will be located on the east side of Maclean Crescent  in front of the Tache Arts Complex (accessed by southbound Maclean traffic coming from Dafoe).
    •    A pick up and drop off zone will be established on the east side of Maclean in front of Pembina Hall and Mary Speechly.
    •    An existing crosswalk will be relocated to the north side of Service Road 2S to better connect Arthur Mauro Residence with Pembina Hall, Tache Arts Complex, and the new Desautels Concert Hall.

Dysart Road Lane Closure

  • Overview: Please be advised that the inside lane of Dysart Road near the North end of Machray Hall (see attached) will be closed to allow for the presence of a lift, on Monday Dec 16 and Tuesday Dec 17.  Flaggers will be present to assist traffic, and signage and barricades will be in place.  The road will remain open, although there may be short delays to allow traffic to move in either direction.

Architecture 2

  • Overview: Washrooms located at rooms 113 and 114 in the Architecture 2 building are temporarily closed due to a breach in the drain line in the crawl space.
    Our plumbing shop is currently working on formulating a repair plan to address the issue promptly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
    In the meantime, we will be posting signs to help direct you to the nearest available bathroom locations within the building. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

Parking lot A Generator

  • Overview: We are in the final repair stages of having the North generator put back online. The temporary generator in parking lot A (see map for location) currently cannot be removed until a full load test to the existing one has been completed. 
    On Monday April 13th, a semi and trailer will be bringing a load bank and transformer to perform this task. Once the load test has been completed, we will be arranging to remove all the trailers from parking lot A.

Brodie Centre Freight/Service Elevator

  • Overview: Please be advised the Brodie / JBRC freight elevator remains shut down for repairs since Tuesday 06/25/2024 and will continue to be shut down for an unspecified period of time. TK Elevator Winnipeg is working to get the elevator repaired as soon as is possible and will be updating the timeline of the repair.

    Please use the BMSB freight elevator where cross over floors to Brodie / JBRC are located, floors without a cross over will have to rely on the passenger elevators until the freight elevator is back in service.

  • Overview: Starting August 19, 2024 the washrooms, south stairwell and main public corridor on the 200 level of Education Building #3 will be under construction, see attached plan
    The construction includes the renovation of the both the male and female washrooms as well as the main public corridor outside of Theatre Classroom 290.  Throughout the construction both washrooms will be closed to public use, signage will be posted directing to the nearest washrooms.  The work will also include the installation of hoarding to separate the areas of construction from the public spaces.  This hoarding will be adjusted throughout the duration of the construction to suit the scope of work while still allowing access to the 290 Theatre classroom and West entrance doors.  All disruptive and excessive noise work will be done afterhours.
