The service disruptions webpage provides information about construction disruptions and notices on the two main University of Manitoba campuses that could affect an individual’s ability to physically access university services. On campus roadway and building closures, as well as building construction notices, are listed. This information is provided as a service to the community.
Please note that full details are not always available at the outset of a situation. Information and updates are posted as received. All general disruption posts are sorted by timeframe. Urgent notices, such as power outages or snowfall information, are posted at the top.

Fort Garry campus
Service Disruption – Road, Walkway, and Parking Lot Repairs June 11 – September 4

Overview:
Please be advised that university-wide road, walkway, and parking lot repairs have started.
Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required.
Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed.
Public action
Caution should be taken at all times.
Traffic will be maintained at all times, however minor delays may be experienced during peak times, so please plan accordingly.

Urgent:Dysart Road Reduced to One Lane closure- June 4 until further notice
Location: Dysart Road at Sidney Smith Street

Overview:
Please be advised that Dysart Road is reduced to one lane eastbound at Sidney Smith Street due to a water main break.
Access to Parking Lot Q, Sidney Smith Street, St. Andrew’s College, St. Paul’s College, and Campus Children’s Centre remains open.
Sifton Road remains open for exiting the campus.
Barricades and signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required.

Bannatyne campus
Bannatyne Campus-Wide - Reverse Osmosis Water System Shutdown July 7 to july 14
Location: Entire Bannatyne Campus
Timeframe: Thursday 07/09/2026 at 8:00 p.m. to Tuesday 07/14/2026 at 6:00 a.m.
Category: Reverse Osmosis Water System Sanitization
Overview:
This shutdown will only affect reverse osmosis water systems primarily used in labs.
The building’s hot and cold domestic water supplies will not be affected. Reverse Osmosis Water will not be available during the sanitization period, therefore storage of treated water is recommended.
Public action:
Please inform staff and students who will be affected by this shutdown that they need to store treated water and turn off the water supply to sterilizers, autoclaves, ice machines, Millipore purifiers, and other lab equipment connected to the Reverse Osmosis system.

Road, parking lot and sidewalk closures

Fort Garry campus
Service Road 2S - between parking lots F and S - closed during crane set up July 2-6
Date: Thursday, July 2- Monday July 6, 2026 (no weekend work)

Overview:
A portion of Service Road 2S will be closed to traffic to allow contractors to set up a crane to offload electrical equipment.
This is part of the campus-wide hydro reservicing project.

Pembina Highway over Abinojii Mikanah rehabilitation project. (city of Winnipeg construction) Monday, June 22, 2026 – October 2026
In 2026, road and bridge work will focus on the northbound lanes of Pembina Highway from Chancellor Drive to Plaza Drive.
- City will also maintain one southbound left-turn lane onto University Crescent
- Construction on the westbound Abinojii Mikanah ramp to northbound/southbound Pembina Highway will allow for two (2) lanes of traffic to remain open at all times.
- The sidewalk on the east side of Pembina will be closed during construction. The west sidewalk will remain open to pedestrians.
- Monday, June 22, 2026 – October 2026 – construction on the westbound Abinojii Mikanah ramp to northbound/southbound Pembina Highway will allow for two (2) lanes of traffic to remain open at all times.
- Eastbound Ramp from Pembina to Abinojii Mikanah closed for pavement work starting Monday, June 22, 2026 (approximately 6 weeks).

Kings Drive (City of Winnipeg Construction) - June 8 to September 18
Location: Kings Drive from Kilkenny Drive to Freedman Crescent

Overview:
Please be advised that the City of Winnipeg will commence road construction on Kings Drive starting on or around Monday, June 8.
Work includes street and sidewalk renewal, including new pathway construction at the entrance to the University of Manitoba.
During construction, Kings Drive will be converted to a one-way street with traffic permitted to travel in one direction only, depending on the construction Stage.
There will be no on-street parking, and access to private approaches will be limited at times.
Transit will be rerouted as necessary.
Sidewalks may be closed on one side of the street at a time.

- Please be advised that the sidewalk on the east side of St John’s College Residence will remain closed for the duration of the project to allow for construction activity (see map).
- Access to the Wallace Building and Parking Lots Q/K is available through the greenspace between St. John’s College and St. Paul’s College or via the Wallace tunnel, which can be accessed indoors through the Allen Building and Parker Building.
- Access to St John’s College and St. John’s College Residence will not be affected.
Action for area travellers:
- Please plan accordingly and allow additional time for the detour.

Parking Lot A at Sifton Rd. closure - Prairie Biologics Building Site - until further notice

- Construction of the Prairie Biologics Accelerator Building has started in Parking Lot A. To facilitate construction, remaining sections of Parking Lot A and a portion of Sifton Rd. will be closed starting on or after Monday, January 26 (see map) and continuing for the duration of the project (approx. 2+ years).
- Building access and access to loading docks will be maintained to all surrounding buildings. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout construction.
- Accessible parking will be available within the surrounding area. Pedestrian access will be maintained with some detours in place.
- Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required.
- Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

If you work in a building that is currently inaccessible, please refer to the internal Service disruptions and emergencies information on the UM Intranet for guidance on what to do during workplace disruptions.

Investors Group Athletic Centre (IGAC) – facility upgrades: June to September 2026
Please be advised that the Investors Group Athletic Centre (IGAC) will undergo a planned, extensive closure this summer to complete facility upgrades.
- Closure period: June to September 2026
- Work includes: Complete court flooring replacement.
This timeline has been planned to balance impacts on facility users.
This closure window will regrettably primarily affect summer camp programming operated in the space. The Mini U team is developing alternative strategies to ensure our most popular program will run in alternative spaces. Staff and affected participants will be directly communicated with regarding specific impacts and plans.
This broader alert serves to notify the community of the facility timeline.
Units such as Bison Sports, Mini U and Junior Bisons will communicate specific operational updates, alternative locations and program plans directly to their respective participants, coaches and staff.
Joyce Fromson Pool, Frank Kennedy Centre - Closed until further notice
The Joyce Fromson Pool is currently closed and will remain closed until further notice.
UM remains committed to offering high-quality swim programming and will continue to update the community as more information becomes available about reopening the Joyce Fromson Pool.
Machray Hall - full building renovations-Ongoing until further notice

Buildings will be locked to prevent people from entering back during this scheduled shutdown.

- Please be advised that the sidewalk between Architecture 2 and 65 Dafoe will be partially closed and the South entrance to Architecture 2 will be closed while a new entrance ramp is constructed.
- There will be no pedestrian access to the south building entrance during this time.
- Please use the East and West entrances to gain access to Architecture 2 Building. Signage and barricades will be in place.

Architecture 2 washrooms closure: Summer/Fall 2026

- Overview: The washrooms in rooms 113 and 114 of the Architecture 2 building are temporarily closed due to a breach in the crawl space drain line.
- The piping in the crawl space is being replaced by the contractor.
- We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
- We anticipate that substantial completion for this project will be achieved by the end of Summer 2026. Level 100 washrooms should be operational by early Fall 2026.
- In the meantime, we will post signs to direct you to the nearest available bathrooms in the building. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

- Overview: Mechanical Contractor will proceed with the replacement of sanitary and storm sewer piping in the crawlspace of the Architecture II building, starting Monday, July 14, 2025. Access to the work area will be provided by exposing a portion of the existing foundation along the recessed courtyard at the north side of the building (Excavation Area 1). The adjacent area on the east side will also be excavated as required to connect the new lines to existing concrete pipes outside the building.
