Road Closures

Road Construction and Infrastructure Renewal

    Please be advised that campus wide road construction and infrastructure renewal is expected to commence Monday, Aprill 22 and continue until the end of August. Please refer to the attached map 1 and information below:

    •    Zone 1: Sifton Road reconstruction as part of the Southwood Circle redevelopment will commence Monday, April 22. Parking Lot ABC and St. Andrew’s Parking Lot will be impacted periodically. See map 2 for Phase 1 and map 3 for Phase 2. Emergency vehicle access maintained throughout construction. See previous story: UM Today | Southwood Circle construction: Road closures and detours (umanitoba.ca) for additional impacts to active transportation routes.
    •    Zone 2: Phase 2 of the Dysart Road steam/condensate replacement will commence late May early June at the corner of Sidney Smith Street and Dysart Road. Access to Parking Lot Q will be detoured. 
    •    Zone 3: University Crescent warranty repairs and seasonal landscape work, including boulevard restoration, will commence this summer. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Occasional lane closures can be expected.
    •    City of Winnipeg construction: Work on University Crescent continues with new underground infrastructure. Questions related to City of Winnipeg road construction and infrastructure projects should be relayed to 311.

    Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

Manitoba Marathon Road Closures

    Sunday, June 16th
    •    4:30am – 1:00pm University Crescent from Dysart to Chancellor Matheson
    •    5:30am – 9:30am Complete closure to accommodate Super Run course.
    •    5:30am – 1:00pm University Crescent from Pembina to Dysart
    •    9:30am – Kings Drive re-opens – Access to Campus

  • Transit buses will be running but will be diverted to Smartpark.  Please check the Winnipeg Transit service alerts for changes to transit routes on campus.

  • As in previous years, there is also an event on Saturday, June 15th, the Mini & Mighty Fun Runs.  A portion of Chancellor Matheson (Research Road to University Crescent) will be closed starting at 8:30am.  However, access to campus remains open during these events via Innovation Drive, University Crescent, or Kings Drive.

Tree Replacement on Dafoe Road

    Please be advised that recently planted trees will be replaced along Dafoe Rd. starting June 13, 2024. The trees were planted during the 2020 Road Renewal project and due to improper pruning techniques performed by the contractor, some trees did not survive and all are in decline.

Architecture 2

  • Overview: Washrooms located at rooms 113 and 114 in the Architecture 2 building are temporarily closed due to a breach in the drain line in the crawl space.
    Our plumbing shop is currently working on formulating a repair plan to address the issue promptly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
    In the meantime, we will be posting signs to help direct you to the nearest available bathroom locations within the building. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

Education

  • Overview: Starting April 2, 2024 the Education Building Level 200 South Entrance, Vestibule 202 (see attached plan) will be closed for the demolition and replacement of the exterior entrance podium and stairs.  The contractor will begin setting up the exterior construction fencing starting April 2nd, closing off public access to the entrance doors and stairs/podium.  On the interior of the South entrance doors the contractor will hoard off the doors and post signage notifying of the closure and directing occupants to the building’s other exit locations.  For the duration of the construction from April 2nd thru July 31st, 2024 there will be no public access to the South entrance doors to either enter or exit the building.  

    Fire Department access will be maintained at the South entrance for the duration of the construction.

Parking lot A Generator

  • Overview: We are in the final repair stages of having the North generator put back online. The temporary generator in parking lot A (see map for location) currently cannot be removed until a full load test to the existing one has been completed. 
    On Monday April 13th, a semi and trailer will be bringing a load bank and transformer to perform this task. Once the load test has been completed, we will be arranging to remove all the trailers from parking lot A.

Temporary 3-way stop at Freedman Crescent and Alumni Lane

  • Overview: The fire sprinkler system coverage on Level 300 in Dentistry will be offline during the indicated time, Monday, 06/17/24 to Tuesday, 06/18/24 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. This work is part of the Dentistry Rm. D329 Lab Renovation. During the period when the fire sprinkler is out of service for the entirety of Level 300, fire watch will be provided by the Contractor between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. of the shutdown period. If you notice any fire or smoke, please exit the building immediately and activate a nearest manual fire alarm pull station on your way out.
