Bannatyne Campus-Wide - Reverse Osmosis Water System Shutdown July 7 to july 14

Location: Entire Bannatyne Campus

Timeframe: Thursday 07/09/2026 at 8:00 p.m. to Tuesday 07/14/2026 at 6:00 a.m.

Category: Reverse Osmosis Water System Sanitization

Overview: 

  • This shutdown will only affect reverse osmosis water systems primarily used in labs. 

  • The building’s hot and cold domestic water supplies will not be affected. Reverse Osmosis  Water will not be available during the sanitization period, therefore storage of treated water is recommended.  

Public action:

  • Please inform staff and students who will be affected by this shutdown that they need to store treated water and turn off the water supply to sterilizers, autoclaves, ice machines, Millipore purifiers, and other lab equipment connected to the Reverse Osmosis system.

  • A portion of Service Road 2S will be closed to traffic to allow contractors to set up a crane to offload electrical equipment.

Pembina Highway over Abinojii Mikanah rehabilitation project. (city of Winnipeg construction) Monday, June 22, 2026 – October 2026

In 2026, road and bridge work will focus on the northbound lanes of Pembina Highway from Chancellor Drive to Plaza Drive.  

  • City will also maintain one southbound left-turn lane onto University Crescent
  • Construction on the westbound Abinojii Mikanah ramp to northbound/southbound Pembina Highway will allow for two (2) lanes of traffic to remain open at all times.
  • The sidewalk on the east side of Pembina will be closed during construction. The west sidewalk will remain open to pedestrians.
  • Monday, June 22, 2026 – October 2026 – construction on the westbound Abinojii Mikanah ramp to northbound/southbound Pembina Highway will allow for two (2) lanes of traffic to remain open at all times.
  • Eastbound Ramp from Pembina to Abinojii Mikanah closed for pavement work starting Monday, June 22, 2026 (approximately 6 weeks).

Kings Drive (City of Winnipeg Construction) - June 8 to September 18

Location:    Kings Drive from Kilkenny Drive to Freedman Crescent

  • Please be advised that the City of Winnipeg will commence road construction on Kings Drive starting on or around Monday, June 8. 

  • Work includes street and sidewalk renewal, including new pathway construction at the entrance to the University of Manitoba. 

  • During construction, Kings Drive will be converted to a one-way street with traffic permitted to travel in one direction only, depending on the construction Stage. 

  • There will be no on-street parking, and access to private approaches will be limited at times. 

  • Transit will be rerouted as necessary. 

  • Sidewalks may be closed on one side of the street at a time.

  • Construction of the Prairie Biologics Accelerator Building has started in Parking Lot A. To facilitate construction, remaining sections of Parking Lot A and a portion of Sifton Rd. will be closed starting on or after Monday, January 26 (see map) and continuing for the duration of the project (approx. 2+ years).
  • Building access and access to loading docks will be maintained to all surrounding buildings. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout construction.
  • Accessible parking will be available within the surrounding area. Pedestrian access will be maintained with some detours in place.

Investors Group Athletic Centre (IGAC) – facility upgrades: June to September 2026

Please be advised that the Investors Group Athletic Centre (IGAC) will undergo a planned, extensive closure this summer to complete facility upgrades.

  • Closure period: June to September 2026
  • Work includes: Complete court flooring replacement. 

This timeline has been planned to balance impacts on facility users. 

This closure window will regrettably primarily affect summer camp programming operated in the space. The Mini U team is developing alternative strategies to ensure our most popular program will run in alternative spaces. Staff and affected participants will be directly communicated with regarding specific impacts and plans. 

This broader alert serves to notify the community of the facility timeline.

Units such as Bison Sports, Mini U and Junior Bisons will communicate specific operational updates, alternative locations and program plans directly to their respective participants, coaches and staff.

Joyce Fromson Pool, Frank Kennedy Centre - Closed until further notice

The Joyce Fromson Pool is currently closed and will remain closed until further notice. 

UM remains committed to offering high-quality swim programming and will continue to update the community as more information becomes available about reopening the Joyce Fromson Pool.

Machray Hall - full building renovations-Ongoing until further notice

Architecture 2 washrooms closure: Summer/Fall 2026
