• Overview: Work on University Crescent will start up again beginning the week of April 21, 2025 with underground utility renewal. Road renewal will commence in late May and will last until September/October 2025. Construction includes utility upgrades, road renewal, new sidewalk, lighting and new traffic signals at Markham Road and Sifton Road. Traffic on University Crescent will be reduced to one lane in either direction from Thatcher Drive to Dysart Road. Delays may be experienced during peak times. Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Transit service will be maintained with temporary bus stop relocations when required. Transit reroutes may be required during special events. There will be no on-street parking. Caution should be taken at all times. Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

  Category: Road Construction 
  Overview: Manitoba Hydro will be working on underground infrastructure along Markham Road. Work was anticipated to start mid-February, but has been delayed. The work is now expected to commence March 12, 2025 and last until April 9, 2025. During this work periodic closures of Markham Road are expected. The work is expected in two sections from Snow Street to Bohemier Trail as well as Bohemier Trail – University Crescent. 
   

• Signage will be placed in the impacted areas to inform the public. Please plan accordingly. Impacts to Transit Service along Bohemier Trail are not anticipated. To access the Fort Garry campus parking map please visit: UofM Ft. Garry Parking Map - Google My Maps
   

  Please note that Parking Lots Q, U, SD, L, ACW, AC, ALC, D, and the Fort Garry Parkade all accommodate longer term/casual parking for posted rates.

• Overview: Construction on Sifton Rd. continues through spring/summer 2025. Sifton Rd. will be closed Sunday, May 04 starting west of the Campus Children’s Centre and ABC Parking Lot. No access to University Cres. via Sifton Rd. from May to early July 2025. Access to ABC Parking Lot and the Campus Children’s Centre will be maintained throughout construction. See map for detours. 

  In order to reduce delays, interim pick-up and drop-off locations have been identified across the Fort Garry campus. See map for locations.

  •    8:30 Chancellor Matheson @ Research Rd to University Crescent closed. However, access to campus remains open during these events via Innovation Drive, University Crescent and Kings Drive.

• Overview: Washrooms located at rooms 113 and 114 in the Architecture 2 building are temporarily closed due to a breach in the drain line in the crawl space.
  Our plumbing shop is currently working on formulating a repair plan to address the issue promptly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
  In the meantime, we will be posting signs to help direct you to the nearest available bathroom locations within the building. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

• Category: Generator Maintenance

• Overview: We are in the final repair stages of having the North generator put back online. The temporary generator in parking lot A (see map for location) currently cannot be removed until a full load test to the existing one has been completed. 
  On Monday April 13th, a semi and trailer will be bringing a load bank and transformer to perform this task. Once the load test has been completed, we will be arranging to remove all the trailers from parking lot A.

• Overview: Please be advised the Brodie / JBRC freight elevator remains shut down for repairs since Tuesday 06/25/2024 and will continue to be shut down for an unspecified period of time. TK Elevator Winnipeg is working to get the elevator repaired as soon as is possible and will be updating the timeline of the repair.

  Please use the BMSB freight elevator where cross over floors to Brodie / JBRC are located, floors without a cross over will have to rely on the passenger elevators until the freight elevator is back in service.

• Overview: Please be advised, as part for the BMSB Rm. 540 Electrical Upgrade, there is an electrical panel shutdown for Panels 6T, 6C, P6W & P6X for Tuesday, March 25 from 7 am. to 11 am. See below for the panel schedule and specific timeframe when each panel will be performed. This shutdown will affect electrical receptacles, the cold rooms A/V chiller will not be affected. 
  Please ensure any sensitive equipment be deenergized prior to the shutdown timeframe and verify all equipment is working upon completion of the panel shutdown.

• Overview: Please be advised of the greenspace (former T-Block Building) will be turned over to the General Contractor as a construction laydown space starting Thursday, September 19, 2024 to December 2026. There will be four accessible parking spaces maintained on the east side of Med Rehab, see attached plan highlighted in teal.

The Joyce Fromson Pool is currently closed and will remain closed for an extended period. Based on the current assessment, it will not reopen for the summer season. 

We do not have an expected re-opening date for the pool at this time. We will provide updates as the situation evolves and a timeline becomes clearer. 

We understand this news is disappointing and apologize for the inconvenience and disruption this extended closure causes. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we manage this unexpected and prolonged closure. 

UM’s Joyce Fromson Pool is a valued part of our community, and we remain committed to providing high-quality swim programming when we are able to reopen. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

  Overview: 55 Chancellors Circle, May 13 – May 29th, 2025: To facilitate the repair of the air conditioning in the building, the cooling system will be offline until May 30.  During this time building temperatures will be higher than normal when outdoor temperatures are high.

• Overview: Please be advised that the east walkway of  Education 2 (see attached floor plan and crane setup) will be closed to allow for the presence of a lift, on Thursday May 29, 8am – 4:00pm.  Flaggers will be present to assist traffic, and signage and barricades will be in place.  The walkway will remain open. 
  During this time the interior corridor 123cor will also be closed off to the public.

• Overview:  Please be advised of the temporary entrance/ exit closure of Service Road 1S at Maclean Crescent starting May 27 until July 18. This will affect 100 feet of Service Road 1S roadway and construction fencing will impact 8 parking stalls on the east side of Parking Lot D. Note: Parking Services has been notified of the temporary parking stall closure.
