The service disruptions webpage provides information about disruptions on two main UM campuses that could affect an individual’s ability to access services. Building, construction, roadway, and inclement weather notices are listed. This information is provided as a service to the community.
Please note that full details are not always available at the outset of a situation. Information and updates are posted as received. All general disruption posts are sorted by timeframe. Urgent notices, such as power outages or snowfall information, are posted at the top.

Parking Lot A at Sifton Rd. closure - Prairie Biologics Building Site: until further notice

Overview:
- Construction of the Prairie Biologics Accelerator Building has started in Parking Lot A. To facilitate construction, remaining sections of Parking Lot A and a portion of Sifton Rd. will be closed starting on or after Monday, January 26 (see map) and continuing for the duration of the project (approx. 2+ years).
- Building access and access to loading docks will be maintained to all surrounding buildings. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout construction.
- Accessible parking will be available within the surrounding area. Pedestrian access will be maintained with some detours in place.
- Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required.
- Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

Sidewalk along east side of St John’s College residence - Ongoing until further notice

Overview:
- Please be advised that the sidewalk on the east side of St John’s College Residence will remain closed for the duration of the project to allow for construction activity (see map).
- Access to the Wallace Building and Parking Lots Q/K is available through the greenspace between St. John’s College and St. Paul’s College or via the Wallace tunnel, which can be accessed indoors through the Allen Building and Parker Building.
- Access to St John’s College and St. John’s College Residence will not be affected.
Action for area travellers:
- Please plan accordingly and allow additional time for the detour.
- Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct cyclists and pedestrians as required.
- Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.
Entrance Loop, St John’s College - road closure May 26 all day

Bannatyne campus
HSC Parking Lot D- parking stall blocked off - May 23 to June 26 all day

Overview:
Please be advised that there will be a crane onsite at HSC Parking Lot D (715 McDermot Ave) on Saturday, May 23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (see map).
The parking lot and entrance will remain open, but work areas will be closed off to the public. One parking stall will be closed for one month; signage will be in place.
The east entrances of the Brodie Centre and the Basic Medical Sciences Building (BMSB) will also be closed on May 23 and will be available for emergency egress only.
Bike compounds will be closed only on May 23, 2026
Large garbage bin in location from May 23 to June 5.

Building closures

Fort Garry campus
Active Living Centre, Frank Kennedy Centre and Extended Education Complex - May 30 night

Overview:
- On May 30, 2026 from 9 p.m. to 3 am, May 31, 2026, a 600-volt, 150 AMP breaker in the CDP located in Frank Kennedy, needs to be replaced.
- To complete this work safely, the CDP will need to be fully shut down.
- This shutdown will affect all three buildings fed from this CDP.
- As there will be no power available during the shutdown, all three affected buildings will be locked down and no entry will be permitted for the duration of the work.
- Please ensure all sensitive equipment is properly powered down prior to the shutdown.

Joyce Fromson Pool, Frank Kennedy Centre - Closed until further notice
The Joyce Fromson Pool is currently closed and will remain closed until further notice.
UM remains committed to offering high-quality swim programming and will continue to update the community as more information becomes available about reopening the Joyce Fromson Pool.
Tunnel between UMSU University Centre and Allen Building - June 08 to 12, all day
Disruption: Tunnel Closure | Lighting Upgrade Project

Description:
- The UM Electrical Shop will restrict tunnel access to construction personnel only to facilitate the demolition of all existing lighting fixtures.
- Temporary lighting will be installed during this work.
- The tunnel will be reopened to pedestrian traffic on Monday, June 15.

Architecture 2 South entrance closure - May 1st to August 28, 2026

Overview:
- Please be advised that the sidewalk between Architecture 2 and 65 Dafoe will be partially closed and the South entrance to Architecture 2 will be closed while a new entrance ramp is constructed.
- There will be no pedestrian access to the south building entrance during this time.
- Please use the East and West entrances to gain access to Architecture 2 Building. Signage and barricades will be in place.

Architecture 2 washrooms closure: Summer/Fall 2026

- Overview: The washrooms in rooms 113 and 114 of the Architecture 2 building are temporarily closed due to a breach in the crawl space drain line.
- The piping in the crawl space is being replaced by the contractor.
- We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
- We anticipate that substantial completion for this project will be achieved by the end of Summer 2026. Level 100 washrooms should be operational by early Fall 2026.
- In the meantime, we will post signs to direct you to the nearest available bathrooms in the building. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

Architecture 2 North side of building access- Ongoing until further notice

- Overview: Mechanical Contractor will proceed with the replacement of sanitary and storm sewer piping in the crawlspace of the Architecture II building, starting Monday, July 14, 2025. Access to the work area will be provided by exposing a portion of the existing foundation along the recessed courtyard at the north side of the building (Excavation Area 1). The adjacent area on the east side will also be excavated as required to connect the new lines to existing concrete pipes outside the building.

Investors Group Athletic Centre (IGAC) – facility upgrades: Summer 2026
Please be advised that the Investors Group Athletic Centre (IGAC) will undergo a planned, extensive closure this summer to complete facility upgrades.
- Closure period: June to September 2026
- Work includes: Complete court flooring replacement.
This timeline has been planned to balance impacts on facility users.
All spring programs and activities currently scheduled to take place within the Investors Group Athletic Centre, including the Fort Garry campus Spring Convocation ceremonies, are uninterrupted and will proceed as planned. Junior Bisons spring tournaments will also run as planned.
This closure window will regrettably primarily affect summer camp programming operated in the space. The Mini U team is developing alternative strategies to ensure our most popular program will run in alternative spaces. Staff and affected participants will be directly communicated with regarding specific impacts and plans.
This broader alert serves to notify the community of the facility timeline.
Units such as Bison Sports, Mini U and Junior Bisons will communicate specific operational updates, alternative locations and program plans directly to their respective participants, coaches and staff.
Machray Hall: renovations-Ongoing until further notice

Prairie Biologics Building Site - pile driving: Ongoing to May 29
Location: Prairie Biologics Building Site – A Lot
Timeframe: Ongoing to May 29, 2026, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily
Category: Noisy Work
Overview: Please be advised that piling will continue on the new Prairie Accelerator Biologics Building in A Lot. During piling, noise will be audible in surrounding areas and buildings, and vibrations may be felt. Air quality in nearby buildings will be monitored throughout. Pile driving will occur only when exams are not in session.

Brodie/John Buhler Research Centre - Fire alarm testing - May 22 early morning

Overview:
- Scheduled fire alarm bell/strobe testing is taking place coming Friday May 22, 2026 - 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- During the fire alarm test, fire bells/horns will be pulsed for 5 seconds repetitively.
- It is important to note that if a true fire alarm happens to coincide with fire alarm testing, fire bells/horns will stop pulsing and will ring continuously, thereby indicating that you must exit the building and follow established evacuation procedures.
- Once again, pulsating fire alarm bells/horns indicate legislated, fire alarm testing by Physical Plant and do not require evacuation.

This section provides updates on weather-related and environmental conditions that may impact campus operations, health, or safety. Notices may include air quality warnings, extreme temperatures, inclement weather and other events affecting building access or university services.
Winter weather tips
- During seasonal weather conditions, please take additional care when travelling on campus.
- Be cautious of current roadway and walkway (sidewalks and pathways) conditions and adapt travel plans accordingly.
- During and after snowfalls, Operations and Maintenance workers are actively removing snow, shovelling building entrances and sanding travel routes.
- If you find an area in need of snow removal, contact Operations and Maintenance customer service to complete a work request.
- Please take notice of your surroundings during snow removal.
