Road closures
City of Winnipeg Construction – University Crescent

- Overview: Work on University Crescent will start up again beginning the week of April 21, 2025 with underground utility renewal. Road renewal will commence in late May and will last until September/October 2025. Construction includes utility upgrades, road renewal, new sidewalk, lighting and new traffic signals at Markham Road and Sifton Road. Traffic on University Crescent will be reduced to one lane in either direction from Thatcher Drive to Dysart Road. Delays may be experienced during peak times. Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Transit service will be maintained with temporary bus stop relocations when required. Transit reroutes may be required during special events. There will be no on-street parking. Caution should be taken at all times. Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

Manitoba Hydro Construction – Markham Road (City of Winnipeg Street)

Overview: Manitoba Hydro will be working on underground infrastructure along Markham Road. Work was anticipated to start mid-February, but has been delayed. The work is now expected to commence March 12, 2025 and last until April 9, 2025. During this work periodic closures of Markham Road are expected. The work is expected in two sections from Snow Street to Bohemier Trail as well as Bohemier Trail – University Crescent.

Overview: Construction on Sifton Rd. continues through spring/summer 2025. Sifton Rd. will be closed Sunday, May 04 starting west of the Campus Children’s Centre and ABC Parking Lot. No access to University Cres. via Sifton Rd. from May to early July 2025. Access to ABC Parking Lot and the Campus Children’s Centre will be maintained throughout construction. See map for detours.
In order to reduce delays, interim pick-up and drop-off locations have been identified across the Fort Garry campus. See map for locations.

On Monday April 13th, a semi and trailer will be bringing a load bank and transformer to perform this task. Once the load test has been completed, we will be arranging to remove all the trailers from parking lot A.

Joyce Fromson Pool, Frank Kennedy Centre
The Joyce Fromson Pool is currently closed and will remain closed for an extended period. Based on the current assessment, it will not reopen for the summer season.
We do not have an expected re-opening date for the pool at this time. We will provide updates as the situation evolves and a timeline becomes clearer.
We understand this news is disappointing and apologize for the inconvenience and disruption this extended closure causes. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we manage this unexpected and prolonged closure.
