Road Closures

Road Construction and Infrastructure Renewal

    Please be advised that campus wide road construction and infrastructure renewal is expected to commence Monday, Aprill 22 and continue until the end of August. Please refer to the attached map 1 and information below:

    •    Zone 1: Sifton Road reconstruction as part of the Southwood Circle redevelopment will commence Monday, April 22. Parking Lot ABC and St. Andrew’s Parking Lot will be impacted periodically. See map 2 for Phase 1 and map 3 for Phase 2. Emergency vehicle access maintained throughout construction. See previous story: UM Today | Southwood Circle construction: Road closures and detours (umanitoba.ca) for additional impacts to active transportation routes.
    •    Zone 2: Phase 2 of the Dysart Road steam/condensate replacement will commence late May early June at the corner of Sidney Smith Street and Dysart Road. Access to Parking Lot Q will be detoured. 
    •    Zone 3: University Crescent warranty repairs and seasonal landscape work, including boulevard restoration, will commence this summer. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Occasional lane closures can be expected.
    •    City of Winnipeg construction: Work on University Crescent continues with new underground infrastructure. For more information visit: University Crescent Pavement Renewals Project - Public Works - City of Winnipeg. Questions related to City of Winnipeg road construction and infrastructure projects should be relayed to 311.

    Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

Architecture 2

  • Overview: Washrooms located at rooms 113 and 114 in the Architecture 2 building are temporarily closed due to a breach in the drain line in the crawl space.
    Our plumbing shop is currently working on formulating a repair plan to address the issue promptly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
    In the meantime, we will be posting signs to help direct you to the nearest available bathroom locations within the building. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

Ellis

  • Overview: Starting April 4, 2024,  the Ellis Building Link East Entrance and Access Ramp (see attached plan) will be closed for demolition and replacement.  During this time there will be no public access to the East entrance door to either enter or exit the building.  The contractor will begin setting up the exterior construction fencing starting April 4th, closing off public access to the east entrance.  On the interior of the building, the contractor will hoard off the doors and post signage notifying of the closure and directing occupants to use the West entrance doors.  For the duration of the construction the West Link entrance doors will be open and available for use, a temporary ramp has been constructed at the West entrance.

Education

  • Overview: Starting April 2, 2024 the Education Building Level 200 South Entrance, Vestibule 202 (see attached plan) will be closed for the demolition and replacement of the exterior entrance podium and stairs.  The contractor will begin setting up the exterior construction fencing starting April 2nd, closing off public access to the entrance doors and stairs/podium.  On the interior of the South entrance doors the contractor will hoard off the doors and post signage notifying of the closure and directing occupants to the building’s other exit locations.  For the duration of the construction from April 2nd thru July 31st, 2024 there will be no public access to the South entrance doors to either enter or exit the building.  

    Fire Department access will be maintained at the South entrance for the duration of the construction.

Extended Education Building

Parking lot A generator

  • Overview: We are in the final repair stages of having the North generator put back online. The temporary generator in parking lot A (see map for location) currently cannot be removed until a full load test to the existing one has been completed. 
    On Monday April 13th, a semi and trailer will be bringing a load bank and transformer to perform this task. Once the load test has been completed, we will be arranging to remove all the trailers from parking lot A.

Fort Garry Campus – University Cresent

  • Overview: Manitoba Hydro is scheduling to remove a transformer from the University Station yard at the corner of Freedman Crescent and University Crescent. This will require temporary road closures on Monday, May 27th, 2024  at 4:30 AM and Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 at 4:30 AM. These are expected to be very short closures to allow the trailer to enter the yard and load the transformer. Manitoba Hydro flag persons will be managing onsite closures.

Animal Science

  • Overview: Animal Science Partial Building Power Shut Down will occur on June 3rd, 2024 from 6:00am – 8:00am, see attached plan for the areas that will be affected. Please ensure that on Friday, May 31st, 2024:

    1) Save your work and turn off computers and other sensitive electronic devices.
    2) Keep all refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
    3) All flammable liquids are safely stored away and not left on any fume hoods.

Temporary 3-way stop at Freedman Crescent and Alumni Lane
