Foundations in Applied Innovation (EEAS 0168)

This course introduces key concepts, approaches, and frameworks in innovation to help learners begin to conceptualize how to go from idea to impact. By considering diverse perspectives and examining issues in their social, cultural, environmental, and economic contexts, learners will develop a holistic and interconnected understanding of complex situations. The goal of this course is to begin to think differently and engage in critical self-reflection that explores the ethical and social responsibilities of innovators.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • recognize ideas with (or consider ideas in relation to their) potential for meaningful change and impact
  • apply social, cultural, environmental, and economic lenses to evaluate ideas
  • examine various models of innovation and conceptualize the process of moving from an idea to impact
  • reflect on personal values and purpose in shaping innovative work and what it means to work relationally
