About this award

Dr. J. M. Brown was dean of the Faculty of Education from 1959 to 1974 and served on the staff of the Faculty from 1957 to 1974. Dean Brown was a man of many talents and was both teacher and mentor to the hundreds of students who graduated under his quiet and compassionate leadership.

This Award is presented annually by the Faculty of Education Alumni Association to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of teacher education in Manitoba in one or more of the following ways:

  • Has promoted teacher education at the school or division level
  • Has exercised leadership in education at the school or division level
  • Has exercised leadership in the development of teacher education policy at the provincial level
  • Has been identified as a superior mentor of student teachers either as a faculty supervisor or a cooperating teacher.

Nominations may come from the ranks of: teachers, administrators, trustees, superintendents, Department of Manitoba Education and Youth staff, or the Faculty of Education.

Submission deadline: June 30th.
